SUPERSONIC OPENS SOLID IN KELLY
The host club of the Synapse/Supersonic 8-Over Windball Cricket Tournament satisfied their supporters on Saturday night with a four-wicket win in their opening Group D match against Public Enemies at the Kelly Village Recreation Ground.
Public Enemies tried to get the upper hand in the game by batting first when the won the toss, and they were well on their way to do just that when Prakash Dookran and Videsh Moonesar opened with 55 runs from the first 37 balls of the match.
Dookran was run out two balls shy of the full inning, scoring 44 runs from 27 balls to lead the team.
Moonesar retired at the beginning of the seventh over the break the partnership. He scored 19 runs from 16 balls, which lead to Public Enemies parking their inning at 74 for two.
In an unusual occurrence, the Supersonic bowlers will have to wait for their next match to be credited with a wicket, as the retirement of Moonesar and run out of Dookran are just accredited to the team.
Public Enemies were nearly immediately credited with taking wickets. Richie Ramlochan had James Sooknarine bowled for a duck with the second ball of the inning.
He then had Brandon Mungroo caught and bowled three balls later to put a strain on the chase.
If that did not rock the local team, Sanjay Lahorie had opener Dominic Choy caught and bowled with the final ball of the second over, putting them at 15 for three.
But captain Aaron Dass calmed all fears at Kelly, paired with Neil Ramsewak, putting on 53 runs for the unbroken fourth wicket, to take the final score to 78 for three in 7.1 overs.
Dass and Ramsewak struck the ball hard, well and often, splitting six sixes down the middle. Dass faced 22 balls for his 22* runs hitting three fours during his knock, while Ramsewak added 28* runs from 15 balls.
