Asian Medical Students' Association International (AMSA International) We strive through knowledge, action and friendship. First of all, I would like to deliver my gratitude to all Regional Chairpersons for entrusting the team.

The Asian Medical Students' Association (AMSA) International is a representative not-for-profit and non-governmental international medical students' organisation. Dear People of Tomorrow,

It is the 36th anniversary of AMSA International, and I am honored to be elected as Overall Chairperson of AMSA International Tenure 2021/2022. The Executive Committee Tenure 2021/2022 are comprised of 19 members from Taiwan, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Kyrgyzstan. Ever since the COVID-19 outbreak, it has been the worst of times yet the best of times. Travel restriction and border controls gave us no choice but to undergo Force Majeure. However, AMSA International managed to divert the focus from biannual conferences to digital transformation. A great variety of online events—masterclasses, seedership programs, and even organisational rebranding all initiated in the seemingly hopeless year. As the pandemic gradually mitigates, AMSA International is ready to re-evaluate the feasibility of physical activities, while ameliorating the quality and quantity of online ones. For decades, AMSA International has been a platform not only horizontally connecting medical students worldwide, but also vertically linking them to prominent scholars, activists, and their doctor counterparts. Undoubtedly, AMSA International is an incubator where doctor-to-be acquire knowledge and soft skills, take actions for a sustainable future, and forge life-long friendships cross-culturally. Meanwhile, AMSA International is an accelerator to empower youth, to visualize superb ideas, and to shape the world around us collectively. Hence, as Overall Chairperson Tenure 2021/2022, I promise to lead the organisation to new heights. We appreciate every each of your presence since active participation of general member is the fundamental of every organisation. If you are interested in partnering with AMSA or embarking on an AMSA-mazing journey, feel free to drop a message to me (chair@amsa-international.org). For further contact details, please refer to the list of email addresses under the Contact US tab of our website. To stay tuned to the AMSA-stounding opportunities in AMSA, please join our open Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/amsainternationalopengroup/) and subscribe to our mailing list by submitting your information in the bottom of our website entrance page. Stay safe and tuned to AMSA
Thank you
Cordially,
Pin-Chun Chen,
Overall Chairperson
AMSA International 2021/2022.

[One Health, One Threat]
Nipah Virus: deadly, emerging, and preventable

Nipah virus (NiV) is a bat-borne Henipavirus that can cause severe respiratory illness and fatal encephalitis — and in Malaysia, it remains a serious One Health concern linking bats, pigs, and people. 🦇🐖🇲🇾

Fruit bats shed the virus through saliva and urine, with spillover occurring via contaminated bat secretions, infected swine, or contaminated food.
Pigs, dogs, and cats are also vulnerable, often developing respiratory and neurological signs. With no specific treatment or vaccine, prevention depends on biosecurity, surveillance, and limiting contact between wildlife and livestock.

Protecting communities starts with One Health collaboration — across animals, humans, and the environment. ✨

[International Day of Persons with Disabilities]

In commemoration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, AMSA International celebrates the resilience, contributions, and lived experiences of persons with disabilities across the globe. In collaboration with the Nepal Disabled Human Rights Center (DHRC Nepal), we highlight the stories of
- Seti Sunar - An owner of a small local restaurant in Gokarneshwor.
- Bishnu Ghimire - A poultry farmer in Gokarneshwor.

Their journeys remind us that inclusivity is a continuous effort rooted in respect, understanding, and empowerment. When persons with disabilities are actively involved in shaping health programmes and services, our communities become stronger, more responsive, and more compassionate.

Today reinforces our collective responsibility to advocate for dignity, accessibility, and equal opportunities for all.

Together, let us strive toward a world where every individual can thrive without barriers.

[One Health, One Threat: Hendra Virus: rare, deadly, and preventable]

Hendra Virus (HeV) is a bat-borne zoonotic infection that can trigger severe respiratory or neurological disease — and in Australia, it remains a serious One Health concern for communities living close to horses, bats, and agricultural settings. 🦇🐴🇦🇺

Human cases are extremely rare, but when they occur, they can progress rapidly. The good news? Spillover can be prevented through horse vaccination, safe feed storage, and strict quarantine of suspected cases — protecting both humans and animals through coordinated One Health action.

Let’s safeguard our communities — one vaccine, one prevention step at a time. 💉✨

[AMSA International Delegation to IFMSA APRM 2025]

Greetings, People of Tomorrow!

🌏 The IFMSA Asia Pacific Regional Meeting was held in Osaka, Japan from 11th-15th July, 2025. Our Vice Overall Chairperson for External Affairs, Jeremy Yu-Chuan Chang, attended the meeting as the official representative of AMSA International.

🩺 At APRM, medical students from across the Asia-Pacific came together to connect, exchange ideas, and celebrate the diversity that unites us. The experience reflected the spirit of collaboration and friendship that continues to inspire AMSA International’s commitment to shaping a healthier and more connected global community.

🌟 AMSA and IFMSA have long been partners. We sincerely hope that we can achieve more substantial collaboration in the future and ultimately contribute meaningfully to the global health community.

Thank you

[One Health, One Threat: Rabies, Preventable but Fatal if Ignored]

Greetings, People of Tomorrow!

Rabies is a deadly zoonotic disease caused by the Lyssavirus—and in India, dogs are responsible for nearly 90% of human cases. 🐕💉
Once symptoms appear, rabies is always fatal, but the good news is: it’s completely preventable.

Let’s stop rabies together — one vaccine, one act of awareness at a time. ❤️🐶

[Post Event Report: Global Health Training 2025]

The Global Health Training 2025 brought together 90 participants from across the globe to learn, collaborate, and innovate in policy development. Throughout the writing prep week, participants developed policy briefs using WHO EVIPNet resources and enhanced their understanding of evidence-informed policy making.

Day 1 featured two insightful webinars:
💡 “Introduction to Policy & Using Evidence for Policy-Making” by Bastein Kolt (WHO EVIPNet) and Dr. Mary Moyana (WHO SEARO)
📝 “Crafting Effective Policy Recommendations” by Dr. Lutfan Lazuardi, Universitas Gadjah Mada

Day 2 included a panel session titled “Shaping Health Policy in the Era of Climate Change” with Dr. Jeni Miller, Joji Sugawara, and Dr. Ayunda Dewi Jayanti Jilan Putri, highlighting the link between climate and health policy.

The event concluded with group presentations where participants showcased their policy briefs, reflecting their dedication and growing capacity in evidence-based global health policy.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated, and to our dearest Organising Committee and Group Moderators for their incredible effort and support in making this training a success.
