TEWWYWisdom TEWWY's mission is to bridge the intergenerational and mental health treatment gaps in Tanzania.

TEWWY's mental health intervention programs adapt WHO's mental health Gap Action Program (mhGAP). mhGAP offers evidence-based intervention guidelines designed to promote mental health in low- and middle-income countries. Our goal is to reduce and prevent su***des by providing evidence-based psychosocial interventions. We achieve this by building social support systems and strengthening community linkages with public health care pathways. Collaboratively, we create safe spaces so that under-resourced and marginalized communities have accessible mental health care. We advocate for policy change and budget to integrate mental health interventions into the community and social services. Program participants learn, grow, and heal along three pathways, representing the journey they take in our programs. TEWWY believes that all three pathways: civic-mindedness, integrated mental health care, and wellness and economic empowerment, are necessary for good mental health. Elderly women, youth, and marginalized communities need to develop as change-makers of communities—as nonspecialist health care providers, as residents of a community, and as citizens of the world. The pathways culminate in three long-term outcomes: Wisdom&Wellness® Communities are trained in providing evidence-based psychosocial interventions, are empowered with marketable skills, and are engaged citizens. If these long-term outcomes are achieved, we will have made an important contribution to achieving our ultimate vision of reducing and preventing su***des in Tanzanian communities.

Kujiua ni tatizo kubwa duniani, ambapo zaidi ya watu 700,000 hufariki kila mwaka, sawa na mtu mmoja kila sekunde 40 (WHO, 2023). Ni moja ya sababu kuu za vifo, hasa kwa vijana wenye umri wa miaka 15–29, ambapo kinashika nafasi ya nne. Wanaume hufa kwa kujiua mara mbili zaidi ya wanawake, lakini wanawake hujaribu kujiua mara nyingi zaidi kwa kutumia njia zisizo hatari. Zaidi ya robo tatu ya vifo vya kujiua hutokea katika nchi za kipato cha chini na cha kati, huku viwango vya juu vikiripotiwa Ulaya Mashariki, Asia ya Kusini-Mashariki na baadhi ya nchi za Afrika. Njia za kujiua zinatofautiana kulingana na kanda: ulaji wa sumu za kilimo vijijini Asia na Afrika, kujinyonga sehemu nyingi duniani, na silaha hasa barani Amerika. Kwa kila mtu anayejiua, kuna makadirio ya watu 20 au zaidi wanaojaribu au wanafikiri kujiua, jambo linaloonyesha jinsi tatizo hili lilivyo kubwa. Kila kifo huacha huzuni kubwa kwa familia na jamii, na hadi watu 10 wanaweza kuathirika moja kwa moja. Kujiua si tatizo la mtu mmoja pekee, bali ni tatizo kubwa la jamii linalohusiana na umasikini, ukosefu wa ajira, msongo wa mawazo, unyanyapaa na upungufu wa huduma za afya ya akili (WHO, 2023; WHO, 2024)

Kusamehe siyo kusahau, bali ni kuachia uchungu ili kujiweka huru. Kukumbatiana siyo tu ishara ya upendo bali pia ni tiba ya kihisia. 🤗 Katika tamaduni zetu, tunatumia kukumbatiana kwenye shughuli mbalimbali k**a harusi, misiba, sherehe za kifamilia au hata kukutana na kuagana. Kukumbatiana hubeba ujumbe faraja, mshik**ano, furaha au mshikamo wa kijamii. Watu wengi huona kulia k**a udhaifu au ishara ya kutokuwa na nguvu, lakini ukweli ni kwamba kulia ni moja ya njia muhimu zaidi za mwili na akili kujisafisha. 😢✨ Machozi husaidia kuachilia hisia nzito, kupunguza msongo wa mawazo, na kuruhusu mwili kurudi katika hali ya utulivu. Jipe muda wa kupumzika, kufanya mambo unayopenda na kuzungumza na watu unaowaamini kwa ajili ya msaada wa kihisia.
