Today, 3 December 2025, key stakeholders from strategic ministries are gathering in the national capital city for a workshop under the project “Implementation of the Development and Application of the Integrated Assessment for Article 6 (IAA6) in Tanzania.”

The IAA6 is a comprehensive and systemic framework designed to guide governments in engaging with Article 6 in a credible, ambitious and well-coordinated manner. It provides practical tools, structured guidance and strategic insights to:
* Strengthen implementation
* Improve transparency
* Foster stakeholder engagement
* Align cooperative approaches with national climate priorities

Unlike conventional technical guides, the IAA6 approach takes a holistic view, linking climate policies, sustainable development, governance systems and cooperative mechanisms to support transformational change. During the workshop, participants will be introduced to the IAA6 approach and explore its potential application within Tanzania’s policy landscape.

This project is generously supported by the European Union and implemented by the UNEP Copenhagen Climate Center (UNEP CCC), in collaboration with Perspectives Climate Research (PCR), Climate Analytics (CA) and Climate Action Network Tanzania (.tanzania) as the national partner.

As part of its efforts to strengthen constructive engagement between CSOs and the Government in the United Republic of Tanzania, Climate Action Network Tanzania, with generous financial support from the Commonwealth Foundation (The Commonwealth), has successfully hosted a two-day technical workshop from 24th - 25th November 2025 that brought together 15 frontline Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from across Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.

The primary objective of this session was to conduct a Comprehensive Capacity and Training Needs Assessment (CTNA) focusing on CSOs' ability to effectively engage in climate policy advocacy.

This marks a significant step toward building a stronger, more informed, and more inclusive civil society movement committed to advancing climate justice and community resilience against climate change.

For the past two intense weeks at in Brazil, CAN Tanzania joined the Tanzania delegation and the global civil society to push for stronger, fairer climate commitments. A number of negotiation outcomes stood out, but our fight for climate justice is far from over.

We welcome the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund, which is a victory for frontline nations like Tanzania, yet the initial $250 million pledge is a mere drop in the ocean compared to the escalating costs of the climate crisis facing the developing countries.

The focus on just energy transition, health, and early warning systems is on the right track, but these are incremental steps when giant leaps are required.

The outcomes from Brazil are not an endpoint; they are the bare minimum. For our communities facing intensifying climate impacts, promises must transform into substantial, accessible finance.

The work intensifies now. We will channel the global calls for tripling renewable energy and scaling up nature-based solutions into unstoppable action on the ground in Tanzania.

As we look ahead, the pressure must build. The next battlegrounds are , to be hosted by Turkey with Australia leading negotiations, and in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We will be there, amplifying the voices of Tanzanians and demanding that leaders move beyond promises.
Join us in holding them accountable for real commitments and just climate action.

As Tanzania hosts the International Conference on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Climate Action, .tanzania is proudly represented by our Operations Manager, Mr. Boniventure Mchomvu, and IT & Communications Officer, Ms. Loveness Nkya.

This two-day session, organized by the UNFCCC Technology Executive Committee, and the United Republic of Tanzania, brings together global and local experts to explore how AI-powered solutions can strengthen climate resilience, bridge data gaps, and accelerate sustainable development.

This was a great opportunity for CAN Tanzania to network with local innovators and to brainstorm on how AI can be used to address climate impacts on the local communities who are the most vulnerable.
