Not only showbiz stars like Madonna, Sting, Naomi Campbell, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston, but also athletes like Tiger Woods and Andy Murray practice the jirotonic method. But in our latitudes you don't hear this term very often, even in the circles of advanced body practitioners. Tatyana Kolomiets, the founder and co-owner of Body Class studio chain, tells us how Jirotonic can help to simultaneously achieve a toned body, a clear head and a peaceful mind.
Gyrotonic (the full original name of the method is Gyrotonic Expansion System) is a holistic concept based on movement. Only movement increases physical strength and preserves it; it is in movement that life is concentrated. Any stagnation in the human body, as well as in nature in general, contradicts the normal course of life and leads to disease. Gyrotonic is therefore first and foremost a system of movement.
The author of the method is the Romanian dancer Juliu Horvat. Having suffered an injury incompatible with the continuation of his dancing career, Juliu began to develop techniques for his own rehabilitation, which became Gyrotonic, a system of modern-style exercises. It seamlessly combines elements from fitness, ballet, yoga, tai chi, swimming, gymnastics and breathing practices.
The term Gyrotonic itself is a mix of two Greek terms: "jaros" - circle and "tonic" - tone, sound. Remember: if you move an object around the edge of a glass for a long time, it will produce a sound. Singing bowl sound therapy is based on this principle. It's the same in jirotonics: if you make smooth circular movements in a figure of eight, your body will eventually "sound" - special vibrations will arise inside, which will create the right balance of all body systems time after time and will make your mind healthier and in better order.
