For 2.5 years, war has ravaged our homeland. We all hoped for a swift end to these dreadful events, but the reality has proven far harsher and longer-lasting than we could have imagined. In these challenging times, we are forced to fight not only for our present but also for our past and history, preserved in Ukraine's archives.
Unfortunately, our archives have suffered severely. The destruction of the SBU archive in Chernihiv has been a tremendous loss for our history. The occupiers stole priceless historical documents from the State Archive of the Kherson Region, causing irreparable damage to our cultural heritage. Archives in occupied territories, such as Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk, remain under threat of destruction or theft. The building of the regional archive in Kharkiv has been damaged due to shelling, and cities across Ukraine continue to suffer under constant attacks.

In the context of war, we face numerous dangers and problems, among which is the excruciating loss of our historical heritage. Every destroyed or stolen document represents a loss of a part of our collective memory, roots, and identity.
But we do not give up. Our team continues to work despite all the difficulties. We believe that knowledge of one's ancestors helps us maintain a connection with our history, our land, and our families. We are doing everything possible to stay connected with you so that you can learn more about your Ukrainian ancestors, ensuring that none of them is forgotten in the turmoil of events.
Together, we are strong. Together, we can preserve and pass our heritage on to future generations.

Sincerely,
GeneaLab

Due to the annexation and seizure of Ukrainian territory by Russian troops in 2014, Ukraine is currently deprived of archives: Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk.
And now, in 2022, there are heavy battles for the territory where Kharkiv, Luhansk (in Severodonetsk in exile), Chernihiv, Sumy, Kherson, Zaporizhia archives are located.
Due to rocket attacks, the archives of Mykolayiv, Odesa, and even Kyiv regions were also in danger.

Dear friends,
We truly thank you for all your letters and prayers, for your support and care, and for your kind words to us! 🙏

The situation is actually very complicated. We find ourselves at the epicenter of Russia's open and aggressive war against Ukraine.
Due to the danger around us, we have to go down to the bomb shelter from time to time for the second day and even spend the night here.

We do not lose hope and confidence in the victory of the good and in preserving the independence of Ukraine. And as soon as this madness stops, we will continue our research for you.
Glory to Ukraine! 💙💛

On 02 Feb 1932, the People's Commissar for Supply of the USSR issued an order to establish a permanent stock of bread in the South Caucasus at the expense of Ukraine and the Kuban.
This order was passed against common sense and eventually led to the Holodomor, when over 7 million people (mostly Ukrainians) on the territory of Soviet Ukraine and outside were starved to death.

77th anniversary of the mass deportation of Crimean Tatars.

Every year on May 18 in Ukraine and around the world the memory of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people is honored.

These two images are a plan for a resettlement operation in our native Simferopol district.

On this day we are all Crimean Tatars!

The Christmas season is the season of family, ancestors included. Enjoy this time by remembering those who made it possible for us to be where we are!

Here is a couple of phrases that you can use to greet your Ukrainian friends and family:
-Христос ся рождає! Славімо Його! (Christ is born! Let's glorify Him!)
-Щаслвого Різдва! (Merry Christmas!)
-З Різдвом Христовим! (congratulations on Christ's birth)

November 28 is Remembrance Day when Ukraine and the whole world will honor the victims of Holodomor of 1932-33.

Though the Ukrainian people suffered through many tragedies, the Holodomor has a special place in our history because Ukraine has never lived through a disaster like that before.
The artificial famine was not only an act of physical destruction. It aimed to eliminate the Ukrainian nation, to deprive it of its freedom-loving spirit, unique identity, language, own free country, and happy future for the kids. Millions of Ukrainians died of starvation. Whole generations were not born. Unlike other Ukrainian tragedies, this, in essence, was Genocide.
We will never forget the lives, sacrifices, and voices of millions of innocent victims that still sound in our hearts just as laud as 78 years ago. Knowledge of the tragedy spreads, and the time passes, but the heartache is still unbearable.
On this day, Ukrainians and others that care bow their heads in grief.
