After many years of thinking, teaching, and developing these ideas, my book The Four Stages of Stress: The Defensive Depth Framework is now published.
In this work I propose a neurobiological framework for understanding stress as a structured survival process organized within the hierarchical architecture of the nervous system. Rather than viewing stress as a single state or pathology, the book describes four progressive stages of defensive regulation that emerge as deeper neural systems are recruited.
The model integrates ideas from neuroscience, physiology, and systems theory to describe how adaptive protective responses can evolve into persistent patterns of dysregulation.
Seeing this project finally take form as a book is both satisfying and a little surreal.
