HOW TO USE?
When consumed in moderation, Spanish sage will benefit your health. To avoid negative side effects, start with 28g daily, assess your condition before increasing consumption.
Contraindications
High fiber intake may be associated with negative symptoms such as abdominal pain and bloating and gas. People with inflammatory bowel disease, should limit fiber intake during exacerbations.
Seeds are capable of absorbing 10-12 times their weight in liquid. They MUST NOT be consumed dry, simply with water. If they are not soaked before you eat them, they can expand and cause blockage, increasing the risk of choking. If you have trouble swallowing, consume the product with extreme caution.
May lower blood sugar and blood pressure. People taking medications for high blood pressure or diabetes should include the product in their diet with caution.
Some people are allergic to Spanish sage and may experience symptoms such as gastrointestinal distress, itching, hives or swelling. If you are allergic to mustard, you are at risk.
HOW TO EAT.
Spanish sage goes well with smoothies, serves as a sprinkle for salads, and is included in many kinds of baked goods. You can make a complete breakfast out of them: mix 1/4 cup of the seeds with 1 cup of milk and your choice of sweetener the night before, leave in the fridge in a container overnight. Use cinnamon, vanilla, peanut butter, berries, bananas, pumpkin puree, grated coconut to spice up the dish - the possibilities are endless.
DESSERT RECIPE
CHIA PUDDING WITH BLUEBERRIES AND ALMONDS
Ingredients
2 cups unsweetened almond milk
1 cup (split, 3/4 and 1/4) fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 cup chia seeds
2 tbsp. honey (optional)
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 cup crumbled almonds or almond flakes
Preparing
1. Blend 2 tbsp. almond milk and 3/4 tbsp. blueberries in a blender. Pour into a bowl or glass jar.
2. Combine chia, honey, cinnamon, vanilla extract. (Or just close and shake if using a jar.) Allow to infuse for 10 minutes, then stir again so there are no lumps.
3. refrigerate for 2 hours or leave overnight.
4. Before using, stir to combine. Top with toasted almonds and the rest of the blueberries.
