The Preimplantation Genetic Testing detects and prevents transmitting severe hereditary diseases to the offspring, caused by genetic and chromosomal abnormalities of the embryos, before those are transferred to the uterus. It also prevents transferring embryos that cannot lead to a pregnancy.
Pre-implantation genetic testing is divided into several categories:
PGT – A (Preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy)
The method helps to detect pathological chromosomal rearrangements in the embryo, even before its transfer into the uterine cavity. This reduces the likelihood of termination of pregnancy, increases the chance of successful pregnancy and the birth of a healthy baby. This method is recommended for patients with a history of malnutrition, with many unsuccessful attempts of IVF, for patients at the older age.
Recommendations:
- Advanced maternal age: 35 or older.
- Women who suffered two or more miscarriages
- Women after two or more failed in vitro fertilisation cycles.
- Male factor: substantial alterations of s***m parameters may indicate the presence of an altered number of chromosomes in the s***m cells.
- Couples who experienced an altered number of chromosomes during a previous pregnancy.
- Couples who are carriers of numerical abnormalities in the s*x chromosomes (X or Y).
PGT – M (Pre-implantation genetic testing for monogenic (single-gene) disorders)
This method is used to identify monogenic diseases that can be inherited from their parents. Recommended when there is a high risk of transmission of an inherited mutation to the unborn baby. For example, when one partner has an autosomal dominant disease state, or both partners are carriers of the autosomal recessive condition of the same disease. Also used to diagnose gender-related diseases.
Recommendations:
- One of the members of the couple diagnosed with a genetic disorder.
- Couples in which both members are unaffected carriers of the same genetic
condition.
- Family history of a genetic disorder.

🧬🔬S***m DNA damage is the major cause of defective s***m function. DNA damage includes DNA denaturation and s***m DNA fragmentation (SDF) and maybe the common underlying aetiology of infertility, recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) pre- and post-implantation losses, accelerated aging, and childhood cancer.
▪️What causes DNA damage in s***m?The majority of DNA damage in s***m is caused when it's in transit from testicle to ej*******on. This damage is spurred by oxidative stress, which can cause DNA single-strand breaks. Men who lead unhealthy lifestyle habits might want to listen up.

PhD José Remohí, a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, the founder and co-president of the Valencian Infertility Institute – Instituto Valenciano de Infertilidad (IVI), the first Spanish institution entirely specialized in human assisted reproduction paid a visit to the Medical Centre "Clinic of Professor Stefan Khmil".
His visit was a big event in the field of reproductive medicine in Ukraine and we are happy that the professor's meeting with the doctors of Lviv and Ternopil medical centers took place in our country. Professional development and training of the doctors of the centers is an integral part of the workplace strategy.

The topic of the lecture was relevant and important: "Bad Responders", that is, women with poor response to ovulation induction.

The focus was on the main areas of infertility treatment and protocols for stimulating women with diminished ovarian reserve in assisted reproductive technology programs. A separate lecture module was devoted to the latest methods of treatment of patients aged 40 years and older, namely in the stimulation of ovarian function.

Leading industry experts from the Western Region have been carefully listening to José Remohí speech, as the Valencian Infertility Institute has many achievements in the field of infertility treatment and their experts are conducting extensive research on the subject. The proposed alternative stimulation techniques have become a real discovery for Ukrainian specialists. The head of the Medical Centre "Clinic of Professor Stefan Khmil" in Lviv, Professor Stefan Khmil, believes that this meeting is significant for Ukrainian reproductive medicine and the information received will give impetus to the introduction of new forms of stimulation for women with diminished ovarian reserve and poor response to ovarian stimulation.
