CUPPING THERAPY

Cupping therapy also known as vacuum cupping is a practice in which the therapist puts special cups on the skin to create suction. This causes the tissue beneath to be drawn up and swell, causing an increase in blood flow to the area.

Some of the benefits of cupping are;
• Stimulates lymphatic and immune function
• Removes tissue adhesions like muscle knots
• Mobilizes fascia
• Reduces stress and built up tension in the body
• Stimulates tissue repair
• Stimulates production of feel-good hormones

Sports physiotherapy entails prevention and management of injuries resulting from participation in sport and exercise for all ages and at all levels of ability. It also involves interventions aimed at enhancing performance of non-injured individuals.
We carry out evidence based practice in;
• Injury prevention. Assist recreation and elite athletes and individuals with injury prevention strategies, such as pre-competition screening and risk assessments, load optimization, recovery strategies, secondary prevention. We work hand in hand with other professionals such as strength and conditioning coaches, coaches and trainers.

• Acute intervention: Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of recent sport and exercise related injuries that occur in a variety of contexts such as recreation or elite sport. Such injuries as muscle strains, joint sprains, concussions, contusions, fractures among others.

• Rehabilitation: We offer physical rehabilitation to individuals with injuries requiring mid-term and long-term care, right from the early stages of recovery through return to active sport participation. Most injuries require rehabilitation to ensure that the athlete regains the strength, power, coordination, endurance and confidence to meet the physical demands of the sport. Persons with severe injuries like muscle tears, severe concussions, etc, and those who have undergone operations such as ACL reconstructions, tendon repairs particularly need to undergo professionally supervised rehabilitation programs to ensure full recovery.

• Performance enhancement: We evaluate an individual’s physical and performance-related profile and can advise on ethical interventions to optimize performance in one’s sport, working hand in hand with other professionals.

INFRARED THERAPY

Infrared (IR) therapy makes use of various wavelengths of radiant thermal energy that are focused to a part(s) of the body to achieve various therapeutic effects.

Infrared radiation has the ability to get to a depth below the skin layers, it is natural, safe, painless, effective and can provide numerous health benefits, without causing damage to the skin. Some of the benefits of Infrared therapy are;

• Pain relief; Increases the sensory nerve conduction velocity, increase in release of endorphins(body’s natural ‘pain killers’), influencing the pain gate mechanism
• Infrared light facilitates the circulation of oxygen-rich blood in the body, which can help in faster healing of deep tissues.
• Decreases muscle spasms and facilitates relaxation.
• Acceleration of healing and tissue repair.
• Used prior to other therapies like electrical stimulation, manual therapy, exercise therapy.
• Infrared radiations have proven to improve cardiovascular health. Its molecule nitric oxide plays an important part in keeping blood vessels healthy.
• May be an alternative to certain medications.

Some of the conditions in which Infrared therapy can be helpful include; Back pain, Neck pain, arthritis, Arthritis, Bursitis, Muscle strains, Carpal tunnel syndrome, Diabetic neuropathy, Sciatica, Tendonitis, Wounds, Sports injuries, among others.
