MenEngage Uganda MenEngage Uganda is a national alliance of 27 civil society organizations involved in working with boys and men to promote gender equality.

Uganda Men Engage Network is a national network of civil society organizations involved in Child Rights, interventions and social mobilization initiatives that engage men and boys in effective ways to reduce gender inequalities and promote the health of children, women, men and boys. The network was established in 2010 following a series of national stakeholders’ consultative meetings. MenEngage Uganda Network (MEU) aims to promote gender equality through active non violence and peace-building attitudes in Uganda. We are using fact-based approaches for an inclusive advocacy and capacity building so as to forge synergies to fight against holistic gender discrimination and gender inequality. MEU aims to support men and boys who are committed to fight GBV to contribute to women’s empowerment and promote gender equality.

WHY !!!!
Female ge***al mutilation (FGM) involves the partial or total removal of external female ge***alia for non-medical reasons. FGM has no health benefits for girls and women but rather has severe side effects to women and girls.
It only causes;
-Severe pain
-Excessive bleeding
-Ge***al tissue swelling
-Infections
-Urinary problems
-Vaginal problems
-Menstrual problems
-Increased risk of childbirth complications
-Psychological problems
Among other complications.
Female ge***al mutilation is performed varying from region and Social-cultural background.
We can contribute to by;
-Challenging the discriminatory reasons FGM is practiced.
-Working with older generations to change traditions.
-Educating girls on their right to decide what happens to their body.
-Speaking out about the risks and realities of FGM.
-Spreading an understanding that religion does not demand FGM.
-Tacking the secrecy that allows cutting to continue
