Uganda Society for Disabled Children cordially invites Individuals, Companies, Organizations and Well-wishers to support and be part of the Kitchen Soup Day which is a welfare and awareness event that aims to directly reach and support 300 children and youth with disabilities living in the slum communities of Makindye Division, one of Kampala’s most densely populated and underserved areas.

Beyond just feeding, the day is intended to restore a sense of dignity and community belonging for children who are too often forgotten in mainstream programming, and we intend to provide each child with a wholesome, nutritious hot meal and a refreshing drink, while also creating an environment of warmth, inclusion, and joyful interaction.

The primary objective of Kitchen Soup Day is to extend care, nutrition, and inclusion to some of the most vulnerable children and youth in Makindye. It is also intended to spark broader public and corporate interest in USDC’s upcoming initiatives.

As a build-up to the launch of the Comprehensive Disability Assessment and Resource Centre, this event will offer an opportunity for sponsors and stakeholders to engage firsthand with the communities the Centre is designed to serve. It will also serve as a platform to amplify the voices and experiences of children with disabilities while mobilizing goodwill, awareness, and future support.

On this International Humanitarian Day, we reflect on the theme “𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.” With support from the European Union, the Building Resilient Inclusive Systems for Locally Led Education and Protection Project (ECHO RISE) is ensuring children and families affected by crises in Kyangwali, Rwamwanja and Nakivale refugee settlements can access education, and protection services, building stronger and more resilient communities.
Through the ECHO RISE, Uganda Society for Disabled Children is breaking down barriers to education for vulnerable groups, especially children with disabilities through targeted support, like, individual learning materials, comprehensive assessments and making the learning environment inclusive. USDC ensures learners have what they need to thrive.
At the same time, we are working with teachers, schools, and communities to strengthen their capacity to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.

"Inclusive education is not optional — it is a right enshrined in law and policy. No child should be left behind".
Yesterday, the Equity and Inclusion Cluster Uganda, where Uganda Society for Disabled Children serves as a co-lead, under the Regional Education Learning Initiative- RELI Africa held an important workshop aimed at mapping assessment tools used by RELI members and other stakeholders to ensure that all children are learning. The focus was on children who are often left behind including children with disabilities, refugee children, street-connected children, and children from minority communities.
The session, moderated by MODERN KAREMA MUSIIMENTA, brought together rich and thoughtful discussions around the tools presented. Participants evaluated them through critical lenses such as accessibility, adaptability, cultural relevance, alignment with national and international frameworks, feasibility, data use, scalability, and sustainability.
This collective effort will inform the development of a compendium of tools that organizations can adopt and adapt to advance inclusive education across contexts.
Grateful to all the organizations that shared their innovations and insights. Today, we join the global community in celebrating the World Refugee Day under the theme: "𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐮𝐠𝐞𝐞𝐬"

This year’s message challenges us to create inclusive communities, influence policy, and support systems that welcome and empower.

We are reminded to honor their courage, resilience and the journeys they have taken in search of safety, dignity and hope.

Refugees are not just survivors, but they are leaders, learners, workers, parents and changemakers.

Uganda Society for Disabled Children is committed to inclusion and dignity for all, therefore, we recognize the strength that displaced communities bring to society when given the chance.

Let’s reaffirm our commitment to a world where every displaced person finds not just shelter but an opportunity to thrive.
