USE

Using condoms is a simple and sure way of securing your health first, while still enjoying an active and fun s*x life without stress.

Condoms help to protect against STIs including HIV, they also prevent unwanted pregnancies especially if used with other birth control methods.

Always use a condom everytime you get down to business with your partner for s*x including oral s*x.

Make sure to use one condom for each round of s*x from the start to the end. Do not reuse a condom.

Use a new condom if the first one was inserted wrongly. Do not try to make amends by using the same condom. It could put you and your partner at risk.

Avoid doubling up the condom during s*x as this increases the chances of tear/condom burst or the condom slipping out.

Use condoms when sharing s*x toys.

Incase the condom breaks during in*******se, stop right away and use a new condom if you're to continue with the act. You and your partner should also be screened for any STIs and HIV, take PEP if your partner is found to be HIV positive. If the lady is not on any birth control method, emergency pills might come in handy to prevent pregnancy.

NOTE: Choose the right condom. Condoms come in different sizes, brands, textures, colours and flavours. Some are lubricated and others aren't. If you're allergic to latex, find the non-latex condoms.
There's surely no excuse for not using a condom.

Below are images of how to properly use the male and female condoms.

Remove the damp unders! Usually after swimming or working out, our unders are wet or damp and this creates a comfortable environment for fungal growth and consequent ge***al candidiasis. Do not stay in wet unders for long. Once you are done exercising or swimming, remove the wet clothing and put on a dry one so you stay healthy.

Doctor; my 4 months old daughter has swollen hands and feet. Recently, she has been irritable, cries a lot and she has a fever. Should I be worried?

Hello. Yes, you should be worried about her health. Your daughter could be having sickle cell disease and currently experiencing a crisis that needs urgent hospital attention. Sickle cell disease is a genetic disease that makes red blood cells become sickled. It can be detected in the first 6 months (3 to 6 months) of life when symptoms and signs start to develop. The swelling of the hands and feet (dactylitis), occurs when sickled red blood cells occlude within the arteries that supply the fingers and toes. This can be very painful and may be the reason for your daughter’s irritability.

Take her to the nearest credible hospital for first aid to handle the crisis, and screening for sickle cell disease. Get in touch with our partner Uganda Sickle Cell Rescue Foundation to get guidance on how to take care of your daughter if she tests positive for sickle cell disease.

Children with Sickle Cell Disease can live to their fullest potential if given the care they deserve. As a child, care lies in the hands of the caretaker, hence make it possible to learn details about the disease from health experts so you give your daughter the best care you can. Together with your partner, you should also get screened to know your status and be educated about sickle cell.

General Note: Sickle cell disease can be preventable if both partners know their status before marriage. Dear young people, as we transit into marriage, endeavor to take a sickle cell test with your partner so that you know your status and get proper advise. Otherwise, when both of you are carriers, chances of having a sickle cell child are high, and that’s not what you want to see happen.

Can I use painkillers to ease my menstrual cramps?

Yes, you can use painkillers to ease menstrual cramps. Abdominal cramping during menstruation can be mild, moderate or severe. The form or severity of pain may not be constant for all the episodes of menstruation; sometimes it can be mild and other times severely painful.

Mild menstrual cramps usually require no painkiller. A combination of exercise, rest, and warm compresses can relieve it. However, in moderate to severe pain, you may benefit from a Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, piroxicam etc can be helpful.

Use of painkillers does not have an effect on your uterus or reproductive health. However, defer from NSAIDS if you have recent history of peptic ulcer disease. Paracetamol is safer for you if you have recent peptic ulcer disease history.
