Today we are looking at Bartholins Gland infection! These glands are located on each side of the va**nal opening.

*WHAT IS A BARTHOLINS CYST?*
Bartholins glands are located in the female ge***al area and secrete a lubricating mucus. It drains into the va**na through a small duct and provides lubrication during in*******se.
However, in sometimes, the opening can get clogged with a thick mucus or because of an infection and causes obstruction to the outflow resulting in a collection of fluid inside the duct (also known as cyst). The building pressure in the cyst creates swelling, discomfort and pain. Often the cyst is aggrevated by a superimposed infection and results in an inflammation and the formation of an abscess.

*Clinical signs and symptoms*
1. Cysts are typically painless
2. Abscesses present with severe pain and swelling.

*Management*
1. Incision and drainage
2. Placement of word catheter
