DIABETES
DIABETES MELLITUS is agroup of metabolic diseases characterized by high blood sugar levels, that result from defects in insulin secretion, action or both.
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition, meaning that although it can be controlled, it lasts a life time.
over time, diabetes can lead to blindness, kidney failure and nerve damage. Tt also accelerates atherosclerosis leading to strokes, coronary heart disease and others.
HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE DIABETES?
If see these signs and symptoms,
High amount of glucose in the urine.
Increased urine output and can lead to dehydration.
Loss of appetite
Fatigue
Nausea and vomiting
Blurred vision and others.
However diabetes can make you prone to infections of the bladder, skin, and extreme of it can lead to lethargy and coma.
CAUSES OF DIABETES
Diabetes can be inherited, however inherited diabetes is passive until it's triggered by certain infections.
Diabetes is also caused by the following,
Defects of beta cell function, mitochondrial DNA mutations
Genetic defects in insulin processing or insulin function
Defects in pro insulin converting enzymes, insulin gene mutations, insulin receptor mutations, pancreatic neoplasia, pancreatectomy, cystic fibrosis
phaechromocytoma, hyperthyroidism, cushing syndrome, acromegaly
HOW DO YOU AVOID DIABETES
Since in most cases diabetes mellitus is mostly due to insulin defects and this as aresult leads to increased blood glucose levels, You can avoid diabetes mellitus by avoiding conditions that can prompt the defects of insulin, In most cases it is better to control your glucose levels in the body by doing the following,
Eating good diet that is to say balanced diet.
Exercise to utilize the glucose in the body as high glucose levels can prompt deficiency of insulin leading to excess blood glucose levels
Avoid smoking, elevated cholesterol levels
Avoid drugs such as Beta adrenergic agonists like Dobutamine, dopamine and others. Drugs like glucocorticoids should also be not used routinely.
CAUTION
If you are already suffering from diabetes mellitus try as much as possible to adhere to the rules and guidelines given to you by the medical professionals as it is very important to control the blood glucose levels.
