About a quarter of the global population is estimated to have been infected with Tuberculosis (TB) bacteria. About 5–10% of people infected with Tuberculosis will eventually get symptoms and develop Tuberculosis disease. Those who are infected but not (yet) ill with the disease cannot transmit it.
Each year, approximately 91,000 people in get sick of TB with 32% of them being HIV-infected. Two out of every 100 people with TB have drug-resistant TB that is not cured by first-line drugs, while approximately 15% of TB cases in Uganda are children aged below 14 years - WHO report.

I started an Initiative under Viva Healthcare Clinic to help in the fight against Tuberculosis in Uganda with support from friends around the world. Photos showing one of the home visits I do in rural Nyabushenyi Rukungiri District Southwestern Uganda, looking for sputum samples from suspected Tuberculosis patients (those who live/socialize with people known to have TB disease). I collect the samples, then take them to a TB testing facility. The facility is responsible for providing treatment for those whose sputum samples turn positive for TB causing bacteria.

The good news is that TB is PREVENTABLE and CURABLE with a BCG vaccine and TB drugs respectively.
Am imploring all healthcare workers in Uganda to do the same in their respective communities. Ther is TB infection in communities especially in remote places where social behaviors like drinking alcohol are common.
As healthcare workers, we have a role to play to help end TB globally.
