Please be advised that beginning the night of April 30th, Harbor Regional Health will be transitioning to a new medical records system.

During the first days and weeks of this change, patients may experience longer wait times.

If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please do not delay care. Call 911 or come to the Emergency Department.

Our Emergency Department team will continue to care for patients based on the seriousness of their condition, with the most urgent needs seen first. Lower acuity patients may experience prolonged wait and treatment times. If your healthcare need is not an emergency, we encourage you to consider other appropriate care options when possible, such as contacting your primary care provider, visiting a walk-in clinic, or using other available non-emergency resources.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as our team moves through this important transition. This new system is a major step forward for Harbor Regional Health and will help us improve coordination of care across our hospital and clinics. Thank you for your support as we work through the first phase of go-live together.

Please join us in celebrating Volunteer Week and recognizing the individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to support Harbor Regional Health.

This year, we also want to offer a special and heartfelt remembrance of volunteer Nick Rainier, who recently passed away. Nick was part of our HRH volunteer family, and we are deeply grateful for the time, kindness, and service he shared with our organization and community. We extend our sincere condolences to his loved ones and all who knew and cared for him. His contribution will be remembered with gratitude.

Our volunteers play an important role in the experience we provide to our patients, visitors, teams, and community. Whether they are greeting visitors, assisting departments, helping behind the scenes, or simply offering a kind and steady presence, they help create an environment that reflects who we are and what we stand for.

Please join us in celebrating Medical Laboratory Professionals Week and recognizing the dedicated professionals in our laboratory who work tirelessly 24/7 to support the care we provide.

Our laboratory team works largely out of sight, but never out of the equation. Every specimen they process, every result they deliver, and every quality check they perform directly shapes the decisions we make for our patients. Day and night, they are present and precise, ensuring that the care our community receives is grounded in accuracy, expertise, and unwavering commitment.

Our phlebotomists are frequently the face of the laboratory for our patients, present at the bedside, in the clinic, and at the draw station, bringing both precision and kindness to every interaction.

"Our laboratory professionals are vital to our mission. The insights they provide are invaluable to the care of our patients and the health of our community. They are the quiet engine of our clinical success, ensuring that every patient receives the right care at the right time. I am deeply grateful for their skill, their dedication, and the essential role they play in our patient's healing process every single day." Tom Jensen, CEO

We are grateful for the role our lab professionals play in supporting our providers, our patients, and our broader community. Their work is the foundation of so much of what we do, and it deserves to be recognized and celebrated.

Please take a moment this week to thank a member of our laboratory team for the difference they make across Harbor Regional Health.

Thank You, Laboratory Professionals!

Please Join Us in Celebrating Health Information Professionals Week!

This Health Information Professionals Week, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank our Health Information Management team for the vital work they do every day to support our patients.

Often working behind the scenes, this team plays a important role in ensuring that accurate, complete, and secure information is available to support every patient’s care. Their attention to detail, commitment to integrity, and dedication to protecting patient information are foundational to the care we provide across Harbor Regional Health.

As Lizabeth Kelso, MHA, CPC, Health Information Management Supervisor, shared:
“While much of your work happens behind the scenes, its impact is felt in every patient interaction. You are the guardians of health information, ensuring that every record tells the right story at the right time, supporting safe, coordinated, and compassionate care.”

Please join us in celebrating the “Guardians of Health Information” and in thanking our HIM team for the expertise, professionalism, and care they bring to their work each day.

We were honored to welcome US Rep. Emily Randall to Harbor Regional Health earlier this month, and to thank her in person for her leadership in securing a $1 million federal investment in patient care technology.

During her visit, Congresswoman Randall spent time touring key areas of our hospital, including the Cardiac Cath Lab, our Healing Gallery, and the Family Birth Center, where she had the opportunity to see our newly completed nursery. She also met with members of our clinical leadership team and Board of Commissioners, taking time to listen, ask thoughtful questions, and better understand the work happening here every day.

This investment will support our transition to Meditech Expanse, a modern electronic medical record system that will connect care across our hospital and medical group. While that may sound technical, the impact is very real. It means our teams will have a more complete view of each patient, fewer delays in care, better coordination between departments, and ultimately, a safer and more seamless experience for the people we serve.

With more than 80 percent of our patients relying on Medicare and Medicaid, investments like this are critical. They help ensure we can continue providing high-quality care close to home, even as healthcare continues to evolve.

In recognition of her support, we were proud to present Congresswoman Randall with our Harbor Healthcare Hero award, a small token of appreciation for the very real difference her work is making in our community.

We are grateful for her visit, her partnership, and her commitment to strengthening healthcare in Grays Harbor.

Our transition to Meditech Expanse is already underway, with a planned go-live date of May 1, 2026. It’s a big step forward for our organization, and one that will benefit our patients and our team for years to come.

Please join us in honoring Kimberly DuBore, BSN, RN, VA-BC, our PICC and Imaging Nurse, Vascular Access Specialist. April 12 was Radiologic and Imaging Nurses Day. A day we honor the important role these specialized nurses like Kimberly play in patient care.

Kimberly brings a level of care, consistency, and expertise that makes a meaningful difference for our patients every day. Many of the patients she serves are among the most complex, those with difficult vascular access or requiring specialized imaging-guided procedures. In those moments, her skill and calm presence not only support clinical outcomes, but also help patients feel safe, seen, and cared for.

Throughout her career, Kimberly has never been content to simply maintain the status quo. When an opportunity emerged in 2009 to support surgical and imaging needs, she stepped forward and helped build a role that did not previously exist, shaping it into a critical function that now supports providers and patients across the organization. Her work continues to expand our capabilities, from advancing vascular access techniques like ultrasound-guided phlebotomy to supporting increasingly complex procedures within imaging.

She is also a highly collaborative partner, working closely with radiologists, hospitalists, and care teams throughout the hospital. Whether she is assisting in procedures, supporting rapid response situations, or following up with patients, Kimberly consistently shows up with a focus on what is best for both the patient and the team.

“Every day is different, and that’s what I love about this work,” Kimberly shared. “I’ve been fortunate to learn from our radiologists and work alongside providers across the hospital. Being able to support our teams and follow patients through their care is incredibly rewarding.”

Director of Imaging Michael Puttkammer, RT(R), MHA, shared his appreciation for Kimberly’s impact:
“I have to say Kimberly is wholly committed to the patients she cares for. Her focus on her patients also extends to the broader community. In my years in the health field, Kimberly has truly demonstrated that she is the best radiology nurse I have had the honor to work with.”

Kimberly’s dedication to her patients, her commitment to continuous growth, and her role in expanding what we are able to offer make her an invaluable part of our team.

Please join us in thanking Kimberly for the care she provides and the impact she makes every day.

Please Join Us in Celebrating Virgil Nusbaum, Health Information Management, the Beacon Award Recipient for April 2026!

Here is what was said about Virgil:
Virgil went out of his way to help me with an urgent request for records for a patient and family in crisis. I was impressed with how Virgil was able to adhere to all of the HIPPA requirements but remain flexible with rapid response times in providing records. He did it all with a sense of humor despite my unreasonable requests. The outcome was truly helping people who were feeling desperate and had not necessarily found the help they needed elsewhere.
Thanks Virgil
Phil Royer

And from your Supervisor:
Virgil is the face of the Health Information Management (HIM) department at the patient window and has been for the last ten years. His team and fellow hospital employees enjoy his company and go to him for his conversation, a joke, or his expertise. Every Christmas, Virgil volunteers for employee recognition and activities for skate with Santa that brings great joy. Quick to belt out a tune that can be heard throughout the first floor he gives us reason to rock along with him.

Always there to help out colleagues, patients, and his team this is very much appreciated, especially during difficult times. Acknowledged regularly for keeping his workspace fun, Virgil is visited often by those he has helped past and present to be given praise. The HIM department is lucky to have Virgil as part of the team, and we celebrate his much deserved Beacon award!

Virgil will be put into the running for our 2026 Lighting the Way Legend Award.
Thank you for lighting the way and congratulations!
