💭 Thoughts Are Not Facts.

We all have an inner narrator - but not everything it says is true.

“I’m not good enough.”
“People will think I’m weird.”
“I can’t handle this.”

These thoughts can feel convincing, but they’re just mental events - not facts.

Try this:
1️⃣ Notice the thought.
2️⃣ Label it: “I’m having the thought that…”
3️⃣ Ask: “Is this thought helpful or true?”

Practicing this small shift builds mental flexibility & helps reduce anxiety & negative self-talk.

You can be surrounded by people & still feel alone.

According to recent findings, more adults today - especially those in their 40s & 50s - are experiencing rising loneliness. Even those juggling careers, parenting, church, sports, & responsibilities can feel disconnected without fully knowing why. Stress, grief, & life transitions often play a quiet role.

The good news? Small, intentional steps can rebuild connection. One helpful framework is the 5–3–1 Rule:

• 5 - Each week, connect with 5 people or groups (friends, co-workers, neighbors, new faces).
• 3 - Each month, nurture 3 meaningful relationships through deeper conversation.
• 1 - Aim for 1 hour of social connection daily — a brief call, coffee chat, or quick check-in counts.

Tiny interactions add up. Over time, these steady moments of connection help rebuild belonging & remind us -we’re not alone.

If you’re feeling disconnected, please reach out.
Northern Plains Psychological Associates & Crossway Christian Counseling are here to walk alongside you. 💛

Feeling overwhelmed lately? Here’s a simple way to understand why — and what to do about it.

🪣 The Stress Bucket. Imagine your ability to handle stress like a bucket. Each stressor - work, relationships, finances, lack of sleep - adds water to the bucket. When it overflows, symptoms like irritability, anxiety, & fatigue appear.

You can’t always stop stress from pouring in, but you can open the drain with rest, connection, faith, prayer, exercise, & time in nature, for example.

💙 This week, ask yourself: What’s filling my bucket? And what can I do today to help it drain?

Sometimes we expect progress to look like steady forward motion — but healing comes with pauses, setbacks, & moments of rest. Rest isn’t weakness; it’s part of the process that helps your mind, body, & spirit restore balance.

💙 You are not behind. You are healing — even in the quiet moments.

We’re missing a few, but our interns & clinical supervisors are gathered for group supervision — a space for collaboration, shared learning, & thoughtful case consultation. We’re always growing together & we’re grateful for the community God is building here.

🌠Office Spotlight! 🌠

Welcome to the office of Faune Kretchman, PMHNP-BC!

Faune is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) who specializes in Psychiatry and is a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Previously, she served as a Psychiatric Nurse on the Behavioral Health Unit at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital and brings both clinical wisdom and a deeply human touch to her work with people of all ages.

Faune believes healing is most powerful when it is chosen, not imposed. We all heal best when we have the freedom to choose. Whether it is therapy, life-style changes, or medication, Faune practices psychiatry with an integrated, whole-person approach. She believes you deserve clear, compassionate options that reflect what matters most to you. Your path forward will always be built with you, not for you.

With a deep passion for supporting those facing anxiety, depression, trauma, or the effects of narcissistic abuse, Faune brings a warm, relational approach. She brings a strong knowledge base in the gut-brain connection and its role in the neurodevelopmental landscape of conditions like ADHD and autism. She stays current with emerging research on the interplay between microbiome health, inflammation, nutrition, and neurological function. For families interested in a more holistic path, Faune helps clients explore how nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted support may work in combination with - or, in place of traditional treatments - balanced approaches that support the whole person, not just the diagnosis. Faune states, “This is your journey, your body, and your story - your voice matters most. I don’t make decisions for my clients; I walk alongside them, offering guidance, choices, and support every step of the way.”

When she is not in session, you’ll find Faune walking country roads with her two Border Collies Hank and Heidi, getting lost in captivating turn-of-the-century Harold Bell Wright novels, and watching Pride & Prejudice and Man from Snowy River for the umpteenth time. She is the mother of six grown children who continue to stretch her heart, shape her faith, and make life beautifully full. Faune is based in Aberdeen, SD and is licensed in South Dakota. She is currently offering in-office and telehealth counseling services.
