Did you know….?

If you are uninsured, under insured, or just need financial help with a mammogram there are a few ways to get a mammagram here in Abilene at little or no cost to you!!!

The Hope Fund by Hendrick Health, a year around program, was established in 2001 to ensure that no one in our community goes without a mammogram due to financial limitations. Their mission is to provide hope and financial assistance to overcome breast cancer through early detection and support.

Did you know…?

There is an ongoing controversy surrounding screening mammography guidelines resulting in conflicting recommendations between physicians and uncertainty for women. The American Society of Breast Surgeons (ASBrS) published a TEN page position statement on screening guidelines. We have shortened their recommendations into 3 main points.

- All women age 25 and older should have a formal risk assessment for breast cancer.
- Women with an average risk of breast cancer should start annual screening mammograms at age 40.
- Women with a higher-than-average risk of breast cancer should start annual screening mammograms at an earlier age and should be offered additional imaging each year. (For example: If your mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 42 you need to start your screenings at age 32.)

Screening is very important. If you are of average risk, are 40 or above and have never had a mammogram please call our office. We would love to get you scheduled.

If you are below the age of 40, feel like you have a significant family history, and would like to talk about early screening please call our office.
