This dashingly handsome boys name is BOSS 😍 This poor guy was hit by a car and suffered life threatening injuries. His owners rushed him to the EVC immediately after the accident. Dr. Mariah Fischer worked quickly to stabilize him and assess the full extent of his injuries. She quickly found out that he had multiple rib fractures, shoulder blade fracture, bleeding into his chest cavity and a collapsed lung. Dr. Fischer and her team of amazing veterinary technicians worked fast to inflate his collapsed lung. They performed a procedure called a thoracocentesis aka chest tap. This procedure allows the Veterinarian to drain air and/or fluid from the chest which then allows the damaged lung to reinflate. Boss quickly stabilized and did well in ICU most of the night. Unfortunately, the bleeding and air leak continued overnight and it became apparent that he needed a chest tube surgically placed to keep his lungs inflated. Dr. Christie Rollins Clinton took over Boss’ care that morning. She placed a chest tube, draining a large amount of air and fluid from around his lungs which quickly stabilized him again. He was in ICU for the next several days while we managed his chest tube and his pain. He proved just how tough and SWEEEET he is to all those who took such amazing care of him. He went home about 5 days after his accident. He still had broken bones that needed a couple months to fully heal but he went home able to breathe well on his own 👏🏼🙏🏼❤️🩹. We spoke to his family today and they let us know he had made a full recovery ! 🤗🥳❤️🤗🥳❤️We are so blessed to have been a part of his amazing road to a FULL recovery 😊
Pictured below is him resting while in ICU, with his biggest fan Sierra, who was his primary Veterinary Technician that worked so hard to nurse him back to health, Boss posing pretty for us right before he was discharged to his family, Boss at home fully recovered and MOST importantly… Boss with his favorite little hunting buddy a couple months before his accident ❤️
