In healthcare, nobody likes a mystery bill. I’m here to tell you the mystery bill is a feature of the system not a bug. Health insurance has ruined primary care

This is a pretty good explanation about the medical loss ratio, which is a carve out of the affordable care act. The government and the health insurance companies are actively conspiring against you to make your healthcare worse and make it more expensive, because it’s not about making your care affordable, it’s about increasing the shareholder value on Wall Street that hold these insurance company stocks

I have personally had to deal with getting a large mystery bill from a lab company. When you don’t have any choice (or knowledge) as to where the doctor is going to send your labs, you’re immediately not a consumer and a marketplace anymore. It’s time to stop paying these bills to the lab companies that you didn’t agree to do business with. The doctor should not be deciding who you do business with. That’s not a marketplace, it drives up cost, and it confirms the system that is ripping people off

How many people think it should be easier to get their medication refilled from the doctor? “ it doesn’t seem that hard, why should I take so long?”

Health insurance has destroyed primary care, and that’s why your doctor can’t get you in. Insurance has made their job so complex that they have to see so many people a day just to make enough money to keep the doors open. When the money slows, they have to sell out to a large corporate system that is able to negotiate with insurance companies, and once it gets to that level, they really don’t care if they can get you in that day or not because they have a whole network of urgent cares and specialists. And that would be great if the care was better— I may be biased in this—but your family doctor that knows you is likely to be better equipped to handle your problems.

How much does a colon colonoscopy cost? Is medical care expensive or is it expensive to run your medical care through your health insurance?
