Delivery day🦿 today for an above-knee prosthetic with a BOA Fit System, fabricated in our lab here in Abingdon, Maryland, paired with a Ottobock Genium X4 and Triton VS.

This patient is incredibly active and competitive, and every detail of this prosthetic was designed to help him reach his personal goals and get back to the activities he loves.

Seeing the smile on his face when he felt the fit reminds us why we do what we do… building solutions around each patients life, not just their limb.

We can’t wait to see all he accomplishes in the coming year!

Q: Will a prosthesis feel natural overtime?

A: Many prosthetic users find that, over time, their device integrates smoothly into daily activities, helping them regain independence and confidence. While a prosthesis cannot fully replicate the sensation of a natural limb, proper fit, alignment, and physical therapy or gait training make it feel like a reliable extension of your body.

At Real Life Prosthetics, our clinical team works closely with you, making adjustments, providing training, and monitoring your progress to ensure your prosthesis supports comfortable, natural movement. With time, patience, and guidance, most patients experience a significant increase in mobility, confidence, and the ability to return to activities they enjoy.

Q: How should I care for my prosthesis?

A: Proper care is essential for comfort, safety, and long-term function. Daily hygiene includes cleaning your residual limb, washing liners or socks, and keeping the socket clean to prevent irritation or infection. Regularly inspect your skin for redness, pressure points, or sores and check your prosthesis for wear, loose components, or unusual noises. Scheduling routine follow-ups with your prosthetist helps catch issues early and ensures adjustments are made as your limb or activity level changes.

At Real Life Prosthetics, our clinical team guides you through maintenance, recommends products for care, and provides ongoing support so your device continues to perform optimally and keeps you moving safely and confidently.

Q: How long will a prosthesis last, and will adjustments be needed?

A: The lifespan of a prosthesis varies depending on your activity level, weight, type of components, and changes in your residual limb over time. Even the most durable devices will eventually show wear and tear, and adjustments are a normal part of long-term prosthetic care. Regular follow-ups with your prosthetist help ensure your prosthesis continues to fit comfortably, function properly, and support safe mobility.

At Real Life Prosthetics, our clinical team is committed to being with you throughout your journey, making timely adjustments, performing maintenance, and providing guidance so your device continues to meet your needs, helping you stay active and independent for years to come.
