Q: What if my residual limb changes? Will my prosthesis still work?

A: Residual limbs naturally change over time due to weight fluctuations, muscle atrophy, swelling, or growth in children. These changes can affect the fit, comfort, and function of your prosthesis.

At Real Life Prosthetics, we schedule regular follow-ups to monitor your limb, evaluate your device, and make timely adjustments whether it’s modifying the socket, changing liners, or updating components. Your relationship to your prosthesis is a long-term partnership, designed to adapt as your body and activity needs evolve. With consistent care and support from our clinical team, your device continues to provide safe, comfortable, and reliable mobility throughout your journey.

Q: Can older adults or those with health challenges get a prosthesis?

A: Often, yes. At Real Life Prosthetics, we evaluate each patient individually, considering residual limb condition, overall health, and mobility goals. Even with health challenges, prosthetics can significantly enhance mobility, safety, and quality of life. Today, advances in prosthetic technology mean that patients previously classified as K2 now have access to a wider range of components designed to improve function and independence.

Devices like the Power Knee, Kenevo, and Intuy provide support for walking, uneven terrain, and daily activities, helping you regain confidence and get back to the things that matter most. Our team works closely with you to select the right device, ensuring it aligns with your lifestyle, risks, and long-term mobility.

Q: What happens if a part of my prosthesis breaks?

A: Prosthetic components can wear over time or occasionally break and that’s why regular maintenance is so important. Most components come with warranties, giving you added peace of mind. Advanced devices, like microprocessor knees (for example, the Genium), have scheduled maintenance requirements to ensure continued safety and performance. During servicing, we provide a loaner prosthesis whenever possible so you can stay mobile without interruption.

At Real Life Prosthetics, our team is ready to assess, repair, or replace components quickly, ensuring your prosthesis remains safe, functional, and tailored to your daily life.
