H. Influenza
⭐️ Bacterial infection caused by Haemophilus Influenzae
⭐️ Higher risk populations: Children less than 5 years old, Poor immunity, Sickle Cell Disease, HIV, Cancer, Unvaccinated individuals.
⭐️ Bacteria is found naturally in nose and throat, becomes invasive once spread into other parts of the body.
⭐️ Bacteria enters the body through respiratory droplet transmission.
⭐️ Symptoms are based upon disease process; Ear infections, Bronchitis, Cellulitis, Epiglottis, Pneumonia, Meningitis, Septic Arthritis, Septicemia
⭐️ Complications, Treatment and Management correlate with disease process.

Vaccine
⭐️ 99% effectiveness with 4 doses
⭐️ Hibrix: 2, 4, 6, 12-15 months
⭐️ Prior to introduction 20,000 children had severe infections and 1,000 deaths per year.

Pertussis
⭐️ Bacterial infection caused by Bordetella Pertussis
⭐️ Higher risk populations: Infants less than 12 months, Poor Immunity, Close Contact/Quarters (daycare, college, prison), Traveling to infected areas, Unvaccinated individuals.
⭐️ Bacteria enters the body through respiratory droplet transmission.
⭐️ Symptoms can begin 5-21 days after exposure.
⭐️ Symptoms are broken down into 3 stages:
Stage 1 (Catarrhal): Fever, Cough for 2 weeks, Fatigue, Runny Nose, Watery Eyes, Redness of eyes.
Stage 2 (Paroxysmal): Coughing episodes during night and day with “whoop” Episodes triggered by laughing, eating, sneezing, crying, etc.
Stage 3 (Convalescent): Mild cough that comes and goes up to 6 weeks.
⭐️ Complications: pneumonia, seizures, encephalopathy, death, syncope, rib fractures.
⭐️ 90% of deaths are infants less than 12 months.

Vaccine
⭐️ 92% effectiveness with 3 doses
⭐️ DTap: 2, 4, 6, 15 months and 4 years
⭐️ Tdap: 11 and 16 years

Tetanus
⭐️ Bacterial infection caused by Clostridium Tetani
⭐️ Higher risk populations: Diabetes, IV drug use, Adults 65 or older, children less than 5, Unvaccinated individuals, and Neonates born to unvaccinated mother.
⭐️ Disease enters the body tetanus contaminated wounds.
⭐️ Bacteria can be found in soil, animal and human intestines.
⭐️ Symptoms can begin 3-12 days after exposure or 5-14 days in neonates.
⭐️ Symptoms involve fever, muscle spasms, difficulty breathing or swallowing, drooling, lockjaw, seizures, etc.
⭐️ Complications: sepsis, ulcers, fractures, malnutrition, pneumonia, atelectasis, or asphyxial spasms.
⭐️ 99% of cases in the US are unvaccinated or have an incomplete vaccine schedule.

⭐️ 99-100% effectiveness with 3 doses

⭐️ 50-75% of deaths occur due to Coma Myocarditis
⭐️ 30% Fatality rate even with treatment
⭐️ Increased cases in US since 2022

⭐️ 87% or greater effectiveness with 3 dose

Hepatitis A
⭐️ Viral illness that affects liver cells leading to inflammation
⭐️ Affects all ages
⭐️ Spread through Fecal-Oral contact
⭐️ Lives in microscopic amounts while symptomatic and up to 2 weeks after.
⭐️ Most people with active Hepatitis A have no symptoms.
⭐️ 99% recovery in Children
⭐️ Symptoms can begin 15-50 days after exposure
⭐️ No specific complications. Hospitalizations are due to coagulopathy, encephalopathy or dehydration from vomiting.

Vaccine
⭐️ 2 dose series
⭐️ Completed series is 95% effective with 15-50 years of immunity
⭐️ 85% effective if given 2 weeks after exposure (individuals not previously vaccinated)

Travel Tips
⭐️ Wash all fruits and veggies with bottled water.
⭐️ Peel own fruits and veggies.
⭐️ Avoid undercooked meats or fish.
⭐️ Avoid iced beverages
⭐️ Use bottled water water to brush teeth.

Hepatitis B
⭐️ Viral illness that primarily affects the Liver
⭐️ Affects all ages including: Newborns, Infants, Young Children, Adults, etc.
⭐️ Spread through personal contact: Saliva, Blood, Bodily Fluids, Mother to Child during birth, etc
⭐️ Lives in microscopic amounts on surfaces for up to 1 week: Nail clippers, Razors, Needles, Body Jewelry, unsterile Dental and Medical Equipment.
⭐️ Most people with active Hepatitis B have no symptoms. Increasing the risk for caregiver/household member transmission.
⭐️ Symptoms can begin 45-160 days after exposure
⭐️ Complications include jaundice, acute or chronic liver failure, cirrhosis, liver cancer, hepatitis D, or reactivated Hep B

Vaccine
⭐️ 3-4 dose series
⭐️ Birth dose is 90% effective
⭐️ Completed series is 98% effective with 30 year immunity
⭐️ Vaccine at birth decreases liver cancer risk by 84% and death my liver disease by 70%

Rubella (German Measles):
⭐️ Highly contagious viral illness
⭐️ Affects all ages
⭐️ Spread through droplet and airborne
⭐️ Symptoms can begin 12-23 days after exposure
⭐️ Complications include Congenital Rubella Syndrome, Joint Pain and Swelling, Clotting Disorders, Brain Swelling, Fetal Demise, and birth defects.

Vaccine
⭐️ Two doses of MMR is 98% effective
⭐️ Given at 12-15 months and 4-6 years
⭐️ Lifelong Protection
⭐️Can be given early in special considerations.
