AAHA Accredited, our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for young, healthy pets; early detection and treatment of disease as your pet ages; and complete medical and surgical care as necessary during his or her lifetime, whether they are a dog, cat, bird reptile or other exotic. We understand the special role your pet plays in your family and are dedicated to becoming your partner in your pet's health care. Our goal is to practice the highest quality medicine and surgery with compassion and an emphasis on client education. Our entire healthcare team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner. We provide a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite with laser surgery, in-house x-ray and ultrasound capabilities, a closely supervised hospitalization area, and indoor boarding kennels. At Absecon Veterinary Hospital we strive to offer not only sound advice, but also optimal veterinary care, thus allowing you the enjoyment of your companion for a maximum number of years. Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn't feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.

We’re always listening to our community and adapting to best meet your needs.
After carefully reviewing patient volume and how our services are being used, including late-night hours, we’ve made a small adjustment to our hospital hours so we can continue providing excellent care in a sustainable way while supporting the well-being of our dedicated team.
Beginning January 1, our hospital will close at 10:00 PM. While we will no longer be open until midnight, we’re optimizing our team to continue providing strong urgent care and emergency services when your pets need us most.
Urgent Care appointments, evening ER care until 10 PM, and after-hours phone triage will remain available to help guide next steps and ensure pets receive care when it matters most.
Thank you for your understanding and continued trust in us.

Snakes need routine vet checkups too! 🩺🐍
Here you can see us using a Doppler during an exam to listen to this snake’s heartbeat. Since a regular stethoscope doesn’t work well for reptiles, the Doppler uses ultrasound to give a clear, accurate reading of the heart’s activity, helping us keep these scaly friends happy and healthy!

Today marks the first day of winter, which means colder temperatures, shorter days, and a few extra things to keep in mind for your pets! Make sure they have a warm place to sleep, limit time outdoors in freezing weather, and wipe paws after walks to remove salt and ice melt.
If your pet seems stiff, uncomfortable, or less active in the cold, our team is always here to help.
Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the season! 🐾

With ma*****na legal in New Jersey, it’s important to remember that THC is toxic to pets. Pets can be exposed by eating edibles, plant material, oils, or food made with THC-infused butter. Edibles are especially dangerous because they may also contain chocolate or xylitol.
Signs of THC exposure can include lethargy, disorientation, wobbliness, vomiting, urinary accidents, tremors, or seizures.
If you think your pet may have ingested something with THC, call us right away! Prompt treatment makes a difference, and being honest about possible exposure helps us provide the safest care.

Cold weather can be tough on pets, even the fluffy ones 🐾
A little extra protection and awareness goes a long way in keeping your pet safe and comfortable all season long.
As temperatures drop, remember to:
• Limit time outdoors and watch for shivering
• Wipe paws after walks to remove salt and ice melt
• Keep pets away from space heaters and fireplaces
• Make sure outdoor pets always have warm, dry shelter
When in doubt, if you’re cold, your pet probably is too. Stay warm and safe this winter!

AAHA Accreditation
The American Animal Hospital Association is the only accrediting body for companion animal hospitals in the United States and Canada.
"Accreditation is voluntary. The hospitals are inviting AAHA in to evaluate how they practice," says Heather Loenser, DVM, veterinary advisor of professional and public affairs for the American Animal Hospital Association. "Vets don't have to do this. That's why accreditation is a big deal, because you know you're going to a practice where the staff wants to be excellent and wants external feedback from leaders in the field.” When a veterinary practice applies for accreditation, the practice is evaluated on approximately 900 standards of veterinary care, ranging from pain management, infectious disease protocols and anesthesia safety to customer service procedures and how medical records are maintained. Facilities are re-evaluated every three years and must pass each time in order to maintain accreditation. The AAHA estimates that about 12 to 15 percent of veterinary practices throughout the United States and Canada are accredited.
"You can still practice excellent medicine and not be accredited, but I think pet owners will notice a difference in team work, pride and high morale of the staff in an accredited hospital.," Dr Loenser says. "The veterinary teams who want to go through accreditation tend to hold themselves to a higher standard - they're often the Type A of the Type A kind of people.” For more information, visit www.aaha.org
