One Vitamin Everybody Should Take
Our need for vitamins, minerals, and other supplements varies depending on our health problems, age, mobility, and what’s going on in our lives.
But one vitamin isn't optional because you ain't got none, and you need a bunch. It's vitamin C.
Most mammals produce their own vitamin C, but humans are one of a very few species that can't make this ultra-necessary vitamin.
Which means we have to be sure to chug down some C every day. If we don't, life goes hard. We catch every germ that floats by. We're more susceptible to disease that comes and stays. Aging speeds up. Etc.
So, like it or not, we have to take vitamin C every day. Unfortunately, a lot of vitamin C supplements are created for advertising, not helping our bodies. Get plain ascorbic acid capsules.
Well, you ask, what's in it for me?
1. Adrenal glands
Health problems often start with a shaky endocrine system, and odds are good that your adrenal glands are leading the way. And it just so happens that your adrenal glands and vitamin C are big buddies. In fact, the highest concentration of C in your body is in the adrenals.
For one thing, C is needed for creating cortisol, your old fight-or-flight buddy. Without enough C, you're in stress city.
2. Immune system
Your immune system needs C to fight the good fight against germs and other enemies. Getting enough C stimulates your body's production of white, infection-fighting, blood cells.
And C also pumps up your immune system by increasing your production of interferon and virus-fighting antibodies.
Plus . . .
3. Getting enough C gives your liver a helping hand, and it's a rare liver that can't use a little help, especially as the birthdays roll by.
4. C helps protect DNA, the genetic material in our cells, from "rusting out."
5. Your body uses C to make collagen. So, which will you choose: Taking C or going saggy-baggy?
6. C helps your arteries carry oxygen-enriched blood from your heart to all your body parts, and keeps your arteries slick and clean for easier blood flow.
7. C also strengthens your heart so you can wake up singing, "Staying alive, staying alive," every morning.
8. C boosts your respiratory system's muscle strength so you can "breathe easy."
9. C gives your gums the oomph they need to hold on to your teeth. It also stops/prevents gums from bleeding.
And I could go on. And on. Vitamin C is a gift every human body needs.
