Track & field can put a lot of demand on the body — especially with repetitive sprinting, jumping, and high training volume. 🏃‍♂️

That’s why smart progressions matter. Building single-leg strength, control, and power helps student-athletes move with confidence and get back on track.

We love helping student-athletes develop movement they can trust. ❤️🖤

🏃‍♂️❄️ Winter Running Without the Pain

Smart tips to protect your hips, knees, and feet all season long

Winter running does not have to mean aches, stiffness, or setbacks. Whether you are training outdoors in the cold or logging miles on the treadmill, winter conditions can place extra stress on your body if you are not prepared.

Why winter running feels harder
❄️ Cold temperatures increase stiffness
🧊 Slippery surfaces change how you move
🧥 Bulky layers can affect your stride
🏃‍♀️ Repetitive treadmill running stresses the same joints

A few smart adjustments can go a long way toward staying injury-free.

Protect your hips and knees
🔥 Take extra time to warm up, especially glutes and hips
💪 Strengthen quads, hamstrings, and hip stabilizers
📏 Shorten your stride on icy or uneven surfaces
⛰️ Change treadmill speed or incline to reduce overuse

Strong, mobile hips and knees help absorb impact and keep your stride smooth.

Do not ignore your feet and ankles
👟 Choose shoes with proper support and traction
🔄 Replace worn running shoes, even treadmill pairs
🦶 Watch for foot stiffness or Achilles tightness
➡️ Transition gradually between indoor and outdoor running

If hip, knee, or foot pain is slowing you down, physical therapy can help you stay active and confident all winter.

Cold weather, snow shoveling, heavier clothing, and less daily movement can all put extra stress on your shoulders and lower back ❄️🧤 In New England winters, these small changes often lead to stiffness, soreness, and lingering pain.

Our physical therapists use manual therapy, targeted exercise, and movement retraining to treat shoulder and back pain and keep you active all season.
