Current mood: mad, sad, frustrated. And please don't say, "at least they brought the dog back to you," because you are right. At least they brought the dog back to us. But I'm also allowing myself to feel these feelings right now.

Lena was adopted earlier this year to what we thought was a loving and committed home. Today she was brought back, literally minutes ago, because she poops in the house. This is the first we heard of this, and we were blindsided when her owner just showed up with her.

It doesn't help that we're completely full. And we just took in a dog this morning and we're headed out to pick up another dog this afternoon.

So Lena is back. She doesn't know why and we're not really clear why, either. We thought when people adopted animals, they were willing to make the commitment. A lifetime. Not just until it's no longer convenient.

Because we have no adequate space, she'll be put in a smaller cage where she will be sad and stressed and confused. Will give her love and warmth and food.

But even still, it feels a lot like purgatory. 💔

RUDOLPH
Age: 9 years old; chocolate male
Weight: X Large (90+ lbs)
Good with: Kids 10+ years and cats
Needs: Single family home with a physical fence. Rudolph must be the only dog in the home
House trained? He's keeping his kennel clean
Crate trained? Yes

Loves: Stuffies
Working on: Finding another forever home. Hoping the second time is a charm.
Dream home: Will have a human who is content having just one dog - and time to give Rudolph the attention he deserves.

RUDOLPH is a sweet, happy older guy who wants to be the center of your attention. Through no fault of his own he ended up being left at a shelter and now has to start his life all over again. That's hard for any dog to do - especially a senior dog. Rudolph is strong on the leash - but not reactive to other dogs on walks, nor does he mind them on the other side of the fence. He's just not interested in being involved with their activities or hanging out with them. Rudolph is good with cats, and he also enjoys stuffed toys that he can carry around. He even likes puzzle toys. If you are ready to give your heart to just one dog, then Rudolph is the guy for you.

THANKS TO A GENEROUS DONOR WHO WANTS TO HELP ALL SENIOR PUPS FIND THEIR FOREVER HOMES, THE ADOPTION FEE FOR RUDOLPH IS $125.

Our service area covers VA, MD, DC, PA, WV, DE and NC, with most dogs fostered in MD or VA (we do not provide a specific location, as a dog may move while in our care). To learn more about a dog and how to adopt, the first step is to complete an application at lab-rescue.org/adoption-process. An adoption coordinator will be assigned to answer your questions and guide you through the process.
