Protein isn’t only about building muscle.
Protein is used to build enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters. It supports your immune system, helps repair tissue, and plays a major role in stabilizing blood sugar.
That’s why when people ask me, “When should I take protein?” my answer is always: it depends on what you’re taking it for.
Personally, I like having protein first thing in the morning, because it helps stabilize my blood sugar, reduce cravings, and prevent constant snacking.
Protein doesn’t have to be a protein shake. It can be a protein-based meal. Eggs, yogurt, fish, meat, or plant-based protein, the form matters less than the purpose.
If your goal is muscle recovery, timing looks different. If your goal is blood sugar balance, energy, or appetite control, protein earlier in the day can make a big difference.
So instead of asking, “When should I take protein?” ask, “What am I taking it for?”
