This is an open letter to all of the NPSLT parents:
Many months ago I was getting out of my car at our Acworth office when I was stopped by a father and his child. He asked, "Are you the owner?". I braced myself to hear about an issue he was having that I would undoubtably attend to fixing. Rather he said, "I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate you and your staff for everything that you do for children and their families". My heart swelled and my eyes got misty! It had been a particularly difficult week in May when I had been sending out attendance policy reminders to all parents and was experiencing some unhappy responses to the reminders. I really needed to hear his kind words at the exact moment he expressed that sentiment to me. It reminded me that when we see something we like in a person we need to tell them rather than keep it in our hearts/heads. So this is what I am constantly thinking about our families that we serve that I have been keeping inside:
We see you fighting Atlanta suburb traffic to get here from as far away as Douglasville or Cobb County to get your child the services they need. We see you reaching out to grandmas and grandpas as your support system to get your child to us. We see you making sure those AAC devices are charged and with your child at therapy. We see the improvements in your child's communication because you practiced the homework that was given to you the week before. We appreciate your effort to work with us to improve your child's communication skills. Your efforts are seen and appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our speech language pathologist hearts! ❤️
