I often write a poem specific to the families of the births I attend ….as a gift to the moms and as a release of energy and space that is held during labor/birth. Here is my poem from yesterday’s birth. Aliya thank you for allowing me to be apart if such a beautiful and sacred space. You are an amazingly strong woman and your children are so wonderful. Good job Mama!
Homebirth of Idris
—————————————
Round belly mother stood strong by the bed
Calm and quiet, as her surrendered body led
Like a tree that bends but does not fall
Her strength was a gift placed there by Allah.
Through waves of labor she swayed and prayed
No cries of panic, no loud display.
Then gently she lowered from standing tall
And knelt in surrender before Allah
A mirror rested between her knees
Reflecting a sight for her little ones to see.
Her little girls leaned with breath held tight
Watching their sibling come into the light.
The midwife waited with patient grace
Ready to welcome this new small face.
With knowing hands and wisdom so wise
She caught the baby before their eyes.
And in that moment…soft and small,
A newborn cry filled the quiet hall.
The children smiled, their wonder grew
For they knew what Allah alone can do.
For life is written by His decree,
From the deepest womb to eternity.
Every breath, every soul, even things small
Is mercy and power from Allah.
So praise be to Allah, the Giver of life,
Who carries a mother through labor and strife.
Who blesses a home with a sweet baby boy
A surprise little brother, a bundle of joy.
