We have INCREDIBLE news to share! Music therapy services have been added as a covered service in the Illinois Medicaid Omnibus package starting on 7/1/25! Illinois MT-BCs, please find more information in your email inbox from the IL MT Recognition Task Force.

Thank you to the Illinois Association for Music Therapy Government Relations Task Force and the national teams at the American Music Therapy Association, Inc. and the Certification Board for Music Therapists for their tireless efforts in making this a reality for the soon to be Licensed Professional Music Therapists in Illinois and all of our service users!

A couple Easter music therapy activities I did with my younger clients this week!

We created our own egg shakers and followed with the song “I Know a Chicken” by Laurie Berkner. Then we had a music and movement Easter egg hunt! 🐰 🎶

This was great to see this morning while watching the Today show! They shared a clip on how music therapy has made an impact on reconnecting caregivers with their family members living with Alzheimer’s.

Music therapy can offer a variety of benefits for patients with Alzheimer’s. Music therapy can improve a patient’s quality of life, focus, and ability to communicate, and reduce agitation.

Not only can music therapy benefit the patient, but it can also benefit caregivers. Caregivers often encounter an increase in stress when caring for a loved one. Music therapy is found to help increase engagement in caregiving and reduce anxiety.
