A NOTE FROM AALIYAH:
"My name is Aaliyah Booker, and I am honored to serve as the 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 at 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧’𝐬 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐂𝐀).
My journey with CCA began in 2022 during my third semester of college, when I started as an intern working alongside our Outreach Director, 𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐣𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧. As someone with lived experience, this work is deeply personal to me. I know firsthand how vital representation is.
𝗪𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐈 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐰 𝐮𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞, 𝐈 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐭 𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐦𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬, 𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲. 𝐈𝐧 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐮𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲. 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐂𝐀 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭. 𝐈𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐞. In my current role, I have the privilege of connecting with individuals, families, and professionals to amplify stories that deserve to be heard. One of the projects closest to my heart is the 𝐂𝐂𝐀 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐓𝐮𝐛𝐞, where I host conversations with incredible individuals in the craniofacial community to highlight their stories and accomplishments. 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐰𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲’𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡, 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐞.
This work has also led me to travel and speak at hospitals, conferences, and community events, reaching individuals who didn’t know that organizations and resources like CCA existed. Witnessing those connections has been truly remarkable.
This work is more than outreach, it’s about building belonging, providing hope, and ensuring no one in our community ever feels invisible. I’m deeply committed to continuing this mission by bringing more voices to the forefront and ensuring every story is heard.
