Popping Bottles This Season? Protect Your Eyes!
At Premier Vision of Dallas, we LOVE a good celebration—but we also want to help keep your eyes safe while you’re enjoying the festivities.
Did you know a champagne cork can launch at up to 34 mph? That’s fast enough to shatter glass…and cause serious eye injuries like bleeding, abrasions, cataracts, or even glaucoma. Real people—including athletes and celebrities—have suffered permanent vision loss from champagne cork accidents.
Here’s how to celebrate safely:
Chill your champagne. Warm bottles build pressure and can pop unexpectedly.
Don’t shake the bottle and never point it toward yourself or anyone else.
Keep a towel over the cork and twist the bottle, not the cork, for a slow, controlled release.
Toast with care—those delicate glasses can break more easily than you think!
If a cork does hit your eye, seek care right away. Some eye injuries seem mild at first but can lead to serious, long-term vision issues without proper follow-up.
This holiday season, let’s keep your eyes happy, healthy, and injury-free.
Celebrate smart and see clearly into the New Year!
