A recent Time article highlights how social media platforms like TikTok have really helped bring awareness to women with ADHD — giving them a space to feel seen, validated, and heard. 💛
(https://time.com/6211695/adhd-tiktok-women)

That’s one of the great things social media can do. But the article also points out a downside: more than 50% of ADHD content online can be misleading or inaccurate. Another reminder that not everything online can be trusted.

In my practice, I talk a lot about learning, understanding your options, and making informed choices. Awareness is a starting point, but the best next step is always connecting with a professional who can guide you.

Which “mind” do you live in most: Emotion Mind, Reasonable Mind, or Wise Mind?

We all move between them, but growth happens when we learn how to pause and step into Wise Mind — the place where feelings and facts work together.

Walking this middle path can make all the difference in how you respond instead of react.

Boundaries are about managing yourself.
Control is about managing someone else.

One builds respect.
The other creates power struggles.

So why is it so hard to face what transforms us?

Because change asks us to confront the parts of ourselves we’ve hidden, the pain we’ve tucked away, the fears we’ve ignored, and the rejection we’re afraid to feel.

Growth is hard, but running is too!

For many women, that inner voice was shaped by years of being told to be polite, agreeable, accommodating, or “not too much.” Over time, it can become loud, demanding, and exhausting.

Therapy helps women slow down, question that voice, and reconnect with their own needs and intuition.

When the volume drops, clarity and self-trust grow.

✨ Update on the Property ✨

Unfortunately the zoning request was denied this evening. While this wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for, we know that every bit of positive energy, prayers, and well wishes sent our way will carry Hestia Healing forward as we regroup and decide our next steps.

Even in a world where there are still stigmas around seeking care, and counseling as a whole, we remain committed to creating a space that nurtures, supports, and empowers women. This is just one step on our journey, and we are leaning into what lies ahead.

1212 Maumee Street - Adrian MI

When I first dreamed of Hestia Healing, my hope was to create something different, a space that would complement Adrian’s current mental health offerings by providing something more intentional, a little different, and deeply specialized. Seeing the growing need for women-only, specialized therapy, I envisioned a place that didn’t feel like a doctor’s office, but instead embodied a philosophy I deeply believe in. Inspired by a Traverse City physician who believed that beautiful architecture, nature, and meaningful work are essential for healing mental illness, I wanted this space to feel calm, safe, and restorative from the moment you walk in.

With that vision in mind, my husband and I set out a few years ago to purchase a commercial property that could embody this feeling. What we quickly learned was that commercial spaces in Adrian were few and far between - let alone something that met what I imagined.

After consulting with the city and feeling optimistic about rezoning options, we moved forward with renovating 1212 Maumee as a potential home for the practice. My family and I spent countless hours transforming the interior pouring time, care, and heart into every detail with outside renovations starting hopefully this summer. However, after a few zoning hiccups, we are at a pivotal moment.

Right now, we’re asking for all the good juju, prayers, and hopeful thoughts (or whatever you practice) that the Adrian City Zoning Commission votes this week on rezoning the property for Residential/Office use 🤍

Our hope is for this space to remain peaceful, preserve nature, and breathe beauty back into the property creating a healing environment for the women of Lenawee County.

If zoning passes, we look forward to welcoming two therapists who specialize in working exclusively with young women and maternal mental health, along with other specialists to come.

Support and enabling can look similar on the surface, but they function very differently in relationships.

Clinically, enabling is often driven by anxiety a need to reduce discomfort, prevent distress, or maintain connection.

Support, on the other hand, is grounded in trust. It means standing beside someone while they learn to cope, adapt, and grow.

Saying no to enabling doesn’t mean you don’t care or don’t want to support; it means you’re choosing to support growth, responsibility, and long-term well-being instead of short-term.

Intrusive thoughts can feel like Kevin facing the furnace - loud, scary, and impossible to ignore.

But here’s the thing, intrusive thoughts aren’t dangerous, they just feel big and scary in the moment.

With support, tools, and someone walking through it with you, they become a lot less terrifying… and a lot more manageable.

According to research, women are more likely than men to experience SAD — often tied to hormonal changes, genetics, and reduced daylight.

Some common symptoms include:
• Persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness
• Loss of interest in things you usually enjoy
• Low energy or fatigue
• Changes in sleep, appetite, or weight
• Difficulty concentrating or making decisions

But here’s the good news!

There are practical, manageable ways to care for yourself during this time.

Here are some research-backed strategies that can help:
• Get more natural light — open curtains, spend time outside if you can, or consider a light-therapy lamp.
• Move your body — regular exercise (even just a 30-minute walk or gentle yoga) can lift your mood by boosting feel-good endorphins.

• Balanced meals with whole grains, veggies, lean proteins, and healthy fats support stable mood and energy.

• Talk it out — psychotherapy or simply talking with someone you trust can help you process feelings and build coping strategies.

• Track your mental health — especially in fall and winter, be mindful of mood, sleep, energy, and appetite changes. Early awareness can make all the difference.

In a study by Ericsson and colleagues, it is argued that the quantity and quality of practice in a chosen field—specifically, a minimum of 10,000 hours of deliberate practice—is needed for mastery.

In other words: it’s not just about time or showing up. Mastery comes from focused effort, intentional learning, and repeated reflection.

I would argue that healing works the same way. Therapy gives you the tools, but real growth happens in the hours you spend practicing those skills in your life. Just like expertise, healing takes dedication, self-awareness, and consistent, deliberate work.

Don’t. Give. Up.
