On National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we honor the legacy of the millions who served our nation during the Vietnam War. On March 29, 1973, the last American combat troops left Vietnam. More than three million Americans served in-country during the war and 58,281 men and women made the ultimate sacrifice. We continue to lose Vietnam veterans every day as a result of the war’s lingering effects.

Many Vietnam veterans returned home to a divided country and, at times, little to no respect for their service. Today, we honor all they gave for their country. Together, we will continue to show our gratitude for our Vietnam veterans and work to ensure their service and sacrifices are never forgotten.

"National Medal of Honor Day was established by Congress to “foster public appreciation and recognition of Medal of Honor Recipients.” The first National Medal of Honor Day was celebrated on March 25, 1991. March 25th was chosen because it was on that date in 1863 that the first Medals of Honor were presented to six members of Andrews’ Raiders.

🎖2026 Medal of Honor Recipients🎖

*Master Sgt. Roderick "Roddie" W. Edmonds (WWII): Known for his actions in a German POW camp where he refused a N**i order to identify Jewish soldiers, declaring "We are all Jews here," saving over 200 lives.

*Command Sgt. Maj. Terry P. Richardson (Vietnam): Credited with saving 85 lives during a 1969 firefight by braving enemy fire to call in air support on his own position.

*Staff Sgt. Michael H. Ollis (Afghanistan): Died in 2013 shielding a Polish lieutenant from a su***de bomber during an attack on his base.
