Dr. Virella is a Board-Certified, Fellowship trained Neurological Spine Surgeon with advanced training in the management of complex spinal disorders. He attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, (P&S) one of the oldest and most prestigious medical schools in the United States. He is a graduate of the UCLA Neurosurgery Residency Program under the direction of Neil A. He completed his complex spine in-folding resident fellowship at the world renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation with Dr. Edward C. Additional work included a second fellowship in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center with Larry T. Dr. Virella is a nationally recognized specialist in the field who has authored numerous articles and lectured nationally and internationally in the field of complex and minimally invasive spine surgery. He is also considered a specialist with extensive training in the management of cerebrovascular disease, including cerebral aneurysms and arteriovenous malformations (AVM's). Perfect placement of artificial discs at C5-C6! ADR’s allow a normal range of motion while providing stability for the patients. No cervical collar is needed for this procedure and it has an overall faster recovery. Patients prefer ADR’s over the traditional cervical fusions. Less down time and a smoother recovery is a win win!

Patient success stories remind us why we continue to do what we do! This patient tried so many different treatments and kept hitting dead ends with his care. He was so frustrated until he came across our office. At the beginning of the month we were able to perform a two level minimally invasive microdiscectomy and microforaminotomy. He is a month post op and in PT getting better and stronger every day. The patient is no longer favoring one leg and walking off balance. He no longer complains of the severe pain he had and he is able to do daily tasks that he was not able to do before the surgery. We are so happy we were able to help this patient get back to his normal life. Thank you for trusting us with your care 🙏🏻

Two level ADR on a patient who was involved in a T bone accident. Dr. Virella used the Centinel Spine PRODISC cervical disc replacement device. Cervical disc replacement procedures can replace cervical fusion procedures if the patient is a candidate. Cervical fusions can reduce the overall mobility in the spine. PRODISC was developed as an alternative to spinal fusions, enabling controlled and predictable motion while providing stability in the spine. If you have been told you need a cervical fusion, give our office a call to see if you are a candidate for a cervical disc replacement.

Another pain free and happy patient! This patient had a traumatic disc herniation after a rear end accident on the freeway. He had exhausted all conservative treatment before coming into our office. Dr. Virella performed a minimally invasive lumbar microdiscectomy and microforaminotomy. Fast forward and this patient is back to work and is able to tackle his daily activities. So glad to have been able to help this patient. Thank you for trusting us with your care!
