What a special morning! I am so grateful to Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation for their generous grant of $5,000 which will go toward supporting the establishment of the Happy Cooks Club!

🥦With this grant, we’re able to offer family-friendly food experiences at 2 Phoenix area elementary schools: Rover Elementary in Tempe and Garfield Elementary in Phoenix.

🍓Free cooking classes and tasting events will feature locally grown items, and offer simple kitchen and meal prep skills to provide kids, teens, and adults with the tools to prepare nourishing meals that are wholesome, flavorful, inexpensive and fun to make.

🍉With goals of community, inclusivity, and connection, the classes will address childhood health and wellbeing, nutrition education, and healthy living.

🥕The Happy Cooks Club is a collaboration with myself, Maya Dailey , Kelly Hedberg , and Cindy Gentry .

🍓 Craving something sweet this summer?
Skip the processed desserts with refined sugar and cool off with this creamy, naturally sweet fruit sorbet instead!

🍉 Summer Berry & Watermelon Sorbet
2 cups frozen watermelon
1 cup frozen summer berries
1 cup frozen banana
Juice of 1 lime
¼–½ cup light coconut milk

Add everything to a food processor with ¼ cup coconut milk. Blend until smooth, scraping down sides and adding more coconut milk as needed.

Scoop, top with shredded coconut or fresh fruit, and enjoy right away!

🍑There are infinite possibilities to this sorbet recipe. Try swapping in frozen peaches, mangos, or cherries for your own yummy twist.

🌱 Farm to Table Education at Maya’s Farm 🌱

🌻Last week I had the opportunity to collaborate with a group of change-makers, food activists and educators in our community to create a holistic field trip experience for 5th graders.

🐝Students explored the farm and enjoyed hands-on workshops including:
🌼 Making seed bombs with
🌽 Crafting plantable cempoalxochitl seed paper with
💜 Heart journaling
🍊 Citrus squeezing with
🦋 Sound healing & Yoga with

🌈At our table, we made Eat the Rainbow Wraps! First, we picked our rainbow swiss chard or collard green ‘tortillas’ and filled our harvest baskets with colorful veggies, edible flowers and fresh herbs. Next we stuffed our green wraps with hummus and as many colors of the rainbow as we could find. Nasturtiums added a fiery color and a peppery flavor!

🌎 It was a day filled with sunshine, creativity, delicious fresh food and connection to the earth. Looking forward to more holistic edible education field trips like this !
