Both longtime friends and colleagues, past and present, recently came together to celebrate the retirement of Wayne T. Frei, MD, FACS, after 30 years of dedicated service to his patients and the Aiken community.

Dr. Frei joined the Medical Staff at Aiken Regional in 1995 straight out of residency and has been practicing at the hospital ever since. He will be greatly missed by his colleagues, staff, patients and the entire community. We wish him nothing but the best in the years ahead as he begins his well deserved retirement.

Thank you, Dr. Frei, for your decades of commitment, compassion and care for our patients and our community!

Congratulations to Haley Miller, RN, BSN, of our Emergency Department. Haley is our October Service Excellence Nursing Winner!

Her nominator highlighted the compassionate care shown while caring for a patient who was miscarrying. “From the moment she arrived, Haley showed remarkable kindness and sensitivity. She offered not only excellent medical care but also emotional comfort. She created a sense of calm and safety amidst heartbreak. She didn’t rush the process or make her feel like ‘just another patient.’ Instead, she cared for her as a whole person, acknowledging her grief, validating her pain, and helping her feel seen and supported. Haley’s compassion turned an incredibly traumatic experience into one touched by grace and humanity.”

Haley showed “exceptional compassion, empathy and professionalism during one of the most difficult moments a patient could face, and the patient’s loved ones expressed that they were forever thankful that Haley was her nurse that day.”

Thank you, Haley, for demonstrating the epitome of compassionate care. We are honored to have you on our team ❤️

Congratulations to Jessica Maivelett, RT(R)(ARRT), with our Radiology Team. Jessica is our October Service Excellence Non-nursing Winner!

She was nominated by a coworker who stated, “Jess was preparing a patient for an MRI, during her review of prior imaging, and she discovered the patient had a metal shard in their neck. This shard was alarmingly close to the patient's arteries and veins. Her attention to detail and thorough review of the patient's history prevented a potentially severe, if not catastrophic, incident. Had this metal object gone unnoticed [or unmentioned] before the patient entered the magnetic field, it could have caused significant harm to the patient. This is a prime example of the critical importance of our pre-scan protocols and our team’s dedication. Jess's quick thinking and expertise directly ensured the safety of the patient.”

Thank you, Jessica, for your diligence and dedication to staying vigilant and providing high-quality, safe care to our patients.
