Please join us in celebrating the newest Summit County CIT graduates!
After a full week of intensive Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training, 24 first responders from nine departments have officially earned their CIT designation. This program equips responders with the skills to de-escalate mental health crises, reduce harm, and connect individuals to treatment rather than incarceration.
This year also marks the 25th anniversary of the Akron CIT program. Akron was the second city in the nation to adopt this model, and we are proud to continue this legacy of partnership between first responders, mental health providers, advocates, and community members.
Congratulations to all participants, and thank you for your dedication to serving individuals experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
Participating agencies: Akron Police Department, Akron Fire Department, City of Cuyahoga Falls Police Department, Norton Police Department , Summit County Sheriff's Office , Summit County Court of Common Pleas - Ohio, Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department, Copley Police Department, Boston Heights Village Police Department, the Adult Parole Authority, and Summa Health Police Department.
Thank you to Community Support Services for hosting and to NAMI Summit County for their support of this essential program.
