đź’ˇThis month's SEL tip comes from Red Oak's Manager of Prevention and SEL Services, Joli Oliver, OCPS.

Let’s celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week (February 15 - 21, 2026) by spreading empathy, encouragement, and smiles!

Daily Kindness Challenge: Do one kind thing for someone each day—it could be a compliment, helping hand, or just including someone new. Small acts make a big difference!

Bonus Activity: Compliment Chain
Each day, write a kind compliment to a peer, family member, or teacher on a strip of paper. Link the strips together to build a Kindness Chain on your wall or bulletin board—and watch it grow!

Kindness is contagious—pass it on!

Today, support looks like community.

It looks like showing up.
It looks like laughter.
It looks like reminding one another that we are not alone.

If you or someone you love is struggling, help is available 24/7. Call or text 988. There is hope. There is help. There is someone ready to listen.

đź’ˇFebruary's Parenting Tip from Kelli Law, OCPSAđź’ˇ
Catch Them Being Kind

February is a month filled with friendship and Valentine's Day excitement. You can use this as an opportunity to build confidence and character. This month's focus is simple, powerful, and is easy to practice at home: Catch them being kind.

Instead of only correcting misbehavior, February is a great time to intentionally look for the good, such as small moments of patience, thoughtfulness, sharing, helping, and empathy.

Try encouraging your child to do one act of kindness each week. It doesn't need to be big to make a big impact. Here are a few ideas:
♥️Write a kind note to a classmate or teacher.
♥️Help a sibling without being asked.
♥️Compliment a friend.
♥️Hold the door open for someone.
These small actions help kids build social confidence and how to be a positive friend. For parents, praise more of what you want to see. When you notice kindness, name it. Kids repeat what gets recognized. Try phrases like, "I noticed you helped without being asked," "You handled that situation with a lot of patience," or "I'm proud of the way you treated them." This kind of praise supports character growth, not just achievement.

Kindness is a skill and the more you practice it, the more it grows!

Today in the Red Oak office, our staff and clients are working on creating buckets of self-love! Each bucket is covered in personal words of affirmation, and inside clients are listing coping strategies they can use when times are tough.

I highly recommend their services!"

Just because school is closed, doesn't mean our staff stop providing care!

Last week during the school closures, our office was bustling with staff and clients, but a few managed to find a quiet moment to do some Cosmic Kids yoga and wind down. We love seeing that our team can help support wellness no matter the setting!

February is Black History Month!

This month is a great time to honor the work of Black mental health trailblazers, like former US Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders, Dr. Francis Cecil Sumner and Dr. Joseph L. White, (who are both often called the fathers of Black Psychology), or Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum (author of "Why are all the Black Kids Sitting Together in the Cafeteria?")
