Maple Farm is thankful to be recognized in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Nursing Homes Ratings. Fewer than one in five nursing homes nationwide received this distinction for exceptional short-term rehabilitation, long-term care or both.

The updated evaluation includes 17 measures in each care category, highlighting consistency, therapy services and resident-centered outcomes.

We are grateful for the Maple Farm team members who offer steady, compassionate care to residents each day.

At approximately 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, a small appliance in the basement of the Maple Farm Nursing Center in Akron, Pa., a Garden Spot Community, caught fire and discharged smoke. Thanks to the swift and professional response of our dedicated staff, our emergency plan was immediately enacted. Residents were safely relocated, and the situation was quickly brought under control with no injuries reported.

We are deeply grateful to the Akron Volunteer Fire Company 12 and their mutual aid partners who responded with urgency and care, ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents and staff. Their presence and expertise were invaluable.

We also want to extend heartfelt thanks to our incredible team—both those on duty and those who, despite being off duty, rushed to the building, to offer assistance and support. Their selflessness and commitment to our community exemplify their dedication to our residents. The families of all the Maple Farm residents were called to inform and ensure them of their loved ones' safety.

We remain committed to the safety and care of our residents and are thankful for the responsiveness, dedication and compassion shown by everyone involved.

Frederick Living CEO Michelle Rassler and Garden Spot Communities CEO Steve Lindsey recently signed letters of affiliation, marking a step towards legal affiliation of the two organizations. Garden Spot Communities and Frederick Living share a similar mission and values as faith-based, non-profit continuing care retirement communities.

Steve says, “We started this journey because both Frederick Living and Garden Spot Communities recognized that the world is changing faster today than ever before. Both organizations believed that the era of the single site and small system organization is coming to a close. As we each looked for partners to leverage our experience and achieve a point of critical mass, we believed our mission-driven, faith-based organizations were a strong match. We are thankful that our boards agree.”

We were delighted to host Paxton, a nine-month-old miniature horse from Lone Oak Animal-Assisted Therapeutic & Educational Services at Maple Farm yesterday. Paxton and his handler, Dr. Heather Girvin, brought smiles and delight to residents and team members alike.

📣🌟 Celebration Alert: Skilled Nursing Week Home Run! ⚾🎉

Maple Farm Skilled Nursing knocked it out of the park with our fantastic baseball-themed picnic today! Residents, team members, and their families gathered together for an incredible day of fun, fellowship, and good old-fashioned Americana.

Our team went above and beyond to create a memorable experience for everyone. From organizing delightful activities to serving up mouthwatering ballpark snacks, they hit a grand slam in making sure everyone had an unforgettable time.

A big shoutout and thank you to all the residents, team members, and families who joined us today. Your presence made this celebration truly special. Together, we hit it out of the park!
