At Planet Fitness in Pascagoula, Mississippi, a remarkable act of kindness unfolded, capturing the attention of many. David Samuel, donned in an orange shirt, was approached multiple times by Derek Medjesk, a man with disability, during a 45-minute workout session. Rather than showing frustration, Samuel responded with unwavering patience and warmth, engaging in handshakes, hugs, and conversations with Derek. He offered workout advice, shared laughter, and made Derek feel genuinely valued, all while continuing his own exercise routine.  

Witnessing this heartfelt interaction, fellow gym-goer Ricky Derouen captured candid photos and shared the story on Facebook. The post resonated deeply, amassing over 153,000 likes and 7,000 comments, and was shared thousands of times. Many praised Samuel for his compassion, noting how he treated Derek with respect and kindness, without drawing attention to himself. As their session concluded, Derek approached Derouen, pointed to Samuel, and proudly declared, “That’s my friend,” beaming with joy. The two have since continued their friendship, working out together on other occasions. Samuel’s genuine act serves as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of simple, heartfelt gestures.
