National Minority Health Month
Celebrated every year in April, National Minority Health Month:

Builds awareness about the disproportionate burden of premature death and illness in minority populations.
Encourages action through health education, early detection and control of disease complications.
The origin of National Minority Health Month is in the 1915 establishment of National Negro Health Week by Booker T. Washington. In 2002, National Minority Health Month received support from the U.S. Congress with a concurrent resolution (H. Con. Res. 388) that “a National Minority Health and Health Disparities Month should be established to promote educational efforts on the health problems currently facing minorities and other health disparity populations.” The resolution encouraged “all health organizations and Americans to conduct appropriate programs and activities to promote healthfulness in minority and other health disparity communities.”

Alliance for Healthy Youth celebrates youth participating in C.A.T.S. and RSVP programs
who know the facts and make the healthy the decision to avoid alcohol and
other drugs use!

“National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week®, or NDAFW, is an annual, week-long, health observance that inspires dialogue about the science of drug use and addiction among youth. It provides an opportunity to bring together scientists, students, educators, healthcare providers, and community partners—to help advance the science, so that we can improve the prevention and awareness of substance misuse in our own communities and nationwide. It was launched in 2010 by scientists at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to stimulate educational events in communities so teens can learn what science has taught us about drug use and addiction. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism became a partner in 2016, and alcohol has been added as a topic area for the week. NIDA and NIAAA are part of the National Institutes of Health.”

March- National Women’s History Month.

We had to start the week and month off with one of our favorites.
Cheryl Biddle,
Founder and Executive Director of the Alliance for Healthy Youth. A non profit, non partisan organization that empowers and educates youth.
Cheryl originally started with the C.A.T.S. program in 1987. Her success and vision in prevention education currently serve 7 countries and over 20 school districts.
Since 1987 and the start of the original program C.A.T.S, over 127,000 students have participated in Concerned About Teen Success (C.A.T.S.) youth led peer education program thanks to over 2,000 courageous and talented youth.
Even during a global pandemic Mrs Biddle stepped up and trained all her staff in Google and transitioned all the programs to fully remote, so that her staff could maintain socially distanced and still provide programming and continuing to serve our community. Additionally adding a podcast program mystorytoday.org so that the messages of her work can still be heard and voiced through a safe platform.
Thank you Cheryl for over 30 years of continued dedication and service to our community, our youth and our futures.
