This video explains the Early Intervention Program for Infants and Toddlers (birth to 3 years old) in California. Through the program families can gain access to in-home support like speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and services from other specialists as well. Parents with concerns about their child’s development can self-refer by contacting their local Regional Center to request an evaluation for their child.

It’s no secret that I loathe the wait and see approach - but I do think many parents don’t realize that they can seek evaluations without a referral or (adamantly) request referrals when “wait and see” is recommended.

ESPECIALLY if you (or anyone else) are concerned, a child is frustrated, or the child isn’t meeting milestones (check out my milestone guide on Instagram for more info!)

In the US: call early intervention for 0-3 and your school district for 3-21 for free evaluations, and you can also check with your insurance to see if and how much it covers for private therapy!
