What does the Battle of Puebla and the victory of a young Mexican republic over the naval super power of France's Napoleon the III have to do with the United States? Relatively little, actually, but it does mean that we can celebrate the independence of an indigenous population that stood up to tyranny. Something Americans all can get behind. But beyond that, Americans love for any excuse to party and the date Cinco de Mayo has been repurposed, much like St. Patrick's Day, to celebrate a culture of people that has been apart of the US from the very beginning. From that mindset, we also at AEC living love every opportunity to get behind a cultural celebration and make things festive for our residents.
Today we're getting festive with our decorations at the Lodge, and we're excited to see what our Cook, Barbara has planned for dinner at Elders Inn; rumored she has some excellent nachos planned. I for one have called ahead and asked Dede, our Administrative Assistant to save me a plate. 🇲🇽
