Just finished extracting my first batch of 2022 honey.

For the first time ever (the bees were too generous with me) I will be selling my wares (honey, CBD-infused honey, and if the bees are extra industrious, some comb honey) at the Immanuel Lutheran Church (1910 Santa Clara Ave., Alameda) Spring Boutique on April 23, 10 am-2 pm.

To make those chunks of sweet-smelling creamy beeswax, I melt pieces of beeswax mixed with honey and various bits of hive debris through several layers of cheesecloth (sometimes more than once, as in when some honey gets ensconced between layers of beeswax.) Molten beeswax lands in water where it floats on the surface of water and solidifies.

Occasionally, the result is not quite what one expects (see the pic.) Looks like calcified remains of ancient marine life or abstract art of some sort.

I have seen this once or twice before and suspect this is caused by beeswax getting hot enough to pass through cheesecloth but not quite hot enough to spread evenly on the surface of the water before solidifying.
