Matthew Lau, DDS FICOI A family-friendly and comfortable dental office with a compassionate and highly skilled team that is Dr. Matthew Lau was born and raised in Alameda, CA.

He graduated from the University of California School of Dentistry in San Francisco. In addition to having extensive experience working at a family dental practice in San Francisco and San Mateo County, he is also experienced in Cosmetic Dentistry and Invisalign Orthodontics. Dr. Lau served as a Clinical Instructor for the Univeristy Of Pacific Dental Program. Dr. Lau has been at the forefront of Oral Implantology, and he is the Fellow of International Oral Implant Society. Dr. Lau is passionate about his work and is always committed to the highest standard of care. His gentle manner and ability to relate to patients make him a favorite dentist among the patients he has worked with. During his spare time, Dr. Lau likes to build guitars, play music, and meets with friends. Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Lau has always valued volunteering his time for community services locally and abroad. He appreciates new cultures and peoples. Dr. Lau is also committed to dental health in the community, anticipating in free dental clinics plus health fairs, and he was also a board member at the Alameda County Dental Society, and the Alameda City Dental Group.

Our Story

Dr. Matthew Lau was born and raised in Alameda, CA. He went to Alameda High, played in the band, and learned jujitsu. He was the kid that swore never to be a dentist...he was the nerd that loved technology.

He left Alameda to go to UC Davis on a Regent’s Scholarship as a computer engineer, but soon was called to dentistry after a Missions trip in Mexico. He got into the University of California School of Dentistry in San Francisco with the intent to help people.

After graduating dental school with an award in craniofacial pain management, Dr. Lau worked all across Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Mateo. He did extensive training in dental implants and earned his fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantology under Dr. Carl Misch. He was on the board of directors with the Alameda County Dental Society. He served with the Berkeley free clinic. He was the webmaster for the Northern California Asian American Dental Association.

When he had the chance in 2014, he bought a practice....to return to Alameda...to return home. Dr. Lau passionately seeks the bleeding edge of quality of care. He obsessively searches for the best techniques and approaches from multiple disciplines and multiple countries. He is obsessed with quality control, and dreams about dentistry.
