The Dyer Nursing Home Garden Club has been buzzing with energy these past few days! With the help of dedicated staff, residents have been digging into spring—planting vibrant flowers, juicy tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, and fragrant herb seeds. Flower beds have been refreshed, trimmed, and brought back to life, transforming the grounds into a colorful, welcoming space. Everything is coming together beautifully as the facility blossoms into the new season! 🌸🌱

Staff spotlight in honor of Occupational Therapy Month
Meet our Occupational Therapist:

Lauren McGee, OTR/L
We are proud to have Lauren McGee serving as our full-time Occupational Therapist. Lauren plays a vital role in helping individuals build the skills they need to live more independent and fulfilling lives.

About Lauren
Lauren grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and earned her Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy in 2019 from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. As a licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L), she is passionate about helping patients develop, recover, and maintain the skills needed for everyday living.

Approach to Care
Lauren is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. She works closely with individuals to create personalized treatment plans that support their unique goals and promote independence and confidence in daily activities.

Life Outside of Work
Lauren and her husband, Lance, are proud parents to two young children, Everett (3) and Riley (2). Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors, running, working on projects, and making memories with her family.

Why Occupational Therapy Matters
Occupational therapy helps people of all ages participate more fully in daily life. Whether it’s improving coordination, strengthening fine motor skills, or adapting to new challenges, Lauren is committed to helping each patient thrive.

We are grateful to have Lauren’s expertise and dedication supporting our community!

Staff Spotlight in honor of Occupational Therapy Month

My name is Madison Grace Cavender, COTA/L and I am the Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant for Broadriver Rehab at Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation. I graduated in May of 2021 with my Associates in Applied Sciences with a focus on Occupational Therapy. I have been practicing Occupational Therapy for 5 years, working primarily in Skilled Nursing Home settings. I have been employed with Broad River Rehab initially as a PRN Therapist beginning in November 2021, then began as a Full-Time Therapist in August of 2023. I am passionate about helping others regain their independence and confidence through their daily lives after an illness, injury, or overall decline.

Occupational Therapy focuses on helping patients safely and effectively complete meaningful daily activities such as dressing, bathing, and toileting tasks. As I love much of what I do with my patients, the most rewarding aspect of my job is creating meaningful relationships with my patients and supporting them through their progress and eventually discharging to their next adventure.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband Isaac, as well as with our 2 long hair dachshunds Leia and Obi-Wan. I also enjoy traveling to new places and spending time outside.

I am so proud to be a part of the Rehabilitation Team for Broadriver Rehab and to be working at Bells Nursing and Rehabilitation and I look forward to continuing the positive impact that allows me to make a difference each day.

Our CDM, CFPPs Autumn Owens and Elizabeth Park spent time this week in Gatlinburg at the ANFP Spring Conference soaking up some great education and fresh ideas to bring back home.

Topics included wound nutrition management, creative approaches to modified diets to make meals more appealing, new snack options, emergency preparedness for nutrition services, and a refresher on professional ethics.

Always proud to keep learning, growing, and finding new ways to better serve our residents 💙

✨We want to recognize and congratulate our wonderful Harber Laman Management CFO, Rita Ward Croom, on being chosen as a Gold Examiner for the 2026 American Health Care Association (AHCA) National Quality Awards!✨

Five people from Tennessee are serving as examiners for the 2026 American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) National Quality Awards, which recognize long-term care centers nationwide that strive for improved quality care.

The participants include gold examiners Susan Brittman (Baptist Health Sciences University) and Rita Croom (Harber Laman Management, LLC), and silver examiners Nina Monroe (THCA/TNCAL), Lakecia Thomas (Woodcrest at Blakeford) and Heather Haberhern (Health Dimensions Group). Examiners undergo comprehensive training in the Baldrige Excellence Framework and the Quality Award criteria while helping ensure a fair, thorough review process for the program's Bronze, Silver, and Gold award levels. Examiners do not review applications from their own state.
THCA/TNCAL thanks these individuals for their contributions to the Quality Award process.

We at DNRC found out this week how important our activities director, Evelyn, really is. While she enjoyed her time off, our staff here at Dyer stepped up and did our best to fill her spot. During the week we had a family member lead karaoke with gospel songs, a roll in theatre (complete with the big screen and popcorn), and enjoyed the beautiful weather with bubbles and music on the patio.
