We had the best time yesterday taking Sing for Care Collective “on tour” as we visited Mallard Cove Assisted Living, Bay Bluffs, and Pineview Cottage.

Our purpose is simple: to bring music, joy, and meaningful connection to our elder communities while raising awareness for the profound impact of professional music therapy services.

While we hope the residents felt the joy we brought through song, I think our volunteers may have been the most impacted. Watching each resident light up with emotion as we sang together was incredibly moving. Moments like these remind us why this work matters so much.

Two especially special moments from the day:

✨ We invited a resident to join our group to sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” She was absolutely overjoyed — singing her heart out, doing a little dance, and sharing how grateful she was for the opportunity. It was such a beautiful moment.

✨ After our group performance, we were invited to sing for a gentleman who is bedridden. He was so engaged and even sang a few words along with us. His gratitude — and his family’s — meant the world to us.

This is what it’s all about. Music has a powerful way of reaching people, creating connection, and bringing comfort in ways words alone cannot.

A huge thank you to all of our incredible volunteers and sponsors who made this day possible.

If you’re interested in volunteering or getting involved with Sing for Care Collective, we’d love to have you. Check out our website to learn more ❤️

We are honored to share that we have received a $4,320 grant from the Dorothy Scott Fund for Senior Citizens, Chip and Jean Frentz Family Fund, and Hal and Gail Willens Family Fund of the Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation.

Thanks to this generous funding, we will be partnering with TWO local Assisted Living/Memory Care facilities to provide 12, 60-minute music therapy sessions, led by board certified-music therapist, Hannah Hoffman, MT-BC.

We are thrilled to announce our first community partner: Bay Bluffs – Emmet County Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs, MI.

Be on the lookout for our second partner announcement coming soon!

We are deeply grateful to PHSACF for recognizing the importance of this work and for funding this meaningful project

We can’t wait to start rehearsals for Sing for Care Collective tomorrow, February 5th! 🎶

SFCC is a community-based music program designed to raise awareness of the profound impact music can have on emotional, physical, cognitive, and social well-being. Through this experience, participants and partners gain a deeper appreciation for the role of professional music therapy services in healthcare and community settings.

We’ll be going on our first “Tour” on March 14th, visiting three local assisted living and memory care communities. Our theme this season is “Tunes of Our Time.”

Today was pure musical magic. ✨ Music has a way of bringing us all together, and our volunteer caroling committee left each facility in tears—in the very best way. For many of our volunteers, this was their first time stepping into an assisted living or memory care community. What might have felt uncomfortable or intimidating quickly turned into joy, connection, and shared song. Residents sang along, shook their jingle bells, and filled the room with smiles.

Moments like today remind us that music therapy shouldn’t be an optional service to glance over—it should be a vital, foundational part of programming in these communities. The impact is real, immediate, and deeply human.

Experiences like this make us want to bring more music and more connection—perhaps quarterly instead of annually (with different music, of course).

Endless thanks to our generous donors, our incredible volunteer carolers, and the facilities for welcoming us with open arms.
