Looking for information on healing trauma? Janina Fisher’s book Transforming the Living Legacy of Trauma: A Workbook for Survivors and Therapists. This book is an excellent resource providing information on how trauma affects the brain and body, as well as worksheets to support the healing journey. A trauma perspective is required to understand adoptees, birth parents, and adoptive parents’ core issues of loss, rejection, grief, identity, control, intimacy, guilt/shame, entitlement, abandonment, fitting-in, loyalty, and claiming. The core issues are trauma symptoms because long after the adoption experience(s), the core issues impact how a person views themselves and their world. A trauma-informed approach understands talking about the issues is often not enough to create change. Trauma-focused therapy is needed to help a person heal. Adoptee Remembrance Day is a day to acknowledge how difficult being adopted has been for many adopted persons. One post cannot do justice to all the pain that has been inflicted upon adoptees by the business of adoption, multitude of losses, and adoption traumas. When their pain was unbearable, some chose su***de. While every adopted person has their own unique journey, with some journeys being less painful than others, Adoptee Remembrance Day acknowledges how painful life has been for many adopted persons.
